SWIFT-Ripple Partnership Rumor Sends XRP Community Into Overdrive, But What’s Actually Confirmed?

Key Takeaways

  • Ripple’s presence at Sibos 2026 has reignited speculation that a SWIFT-Ripple partnership or XRP integration could be coming.
  • Ripple Treasury already has a genuine connection to SWIFT through its treasury and bank-connectivity infrastructure.
  • Neither SWIFT nor Ripple has announced XRP or the XRP Ledger as part of SWIFT’s new blockchain-based shared ledger.

Rumors of a potential SWIFT-Ripple partnership are gaining traction across the XRP community as Sibos 2026 brings both companies into the same room.

Ripple Treasury is attending the Sept. 28-Oct. 1 event in Miami, while SWIFT is using its flagship banking conference to showcase its blockchain-based shared ledger and broader digital-asset strategy.

The timing has fueled speculation that XRP could somehow enter SWIFT’s expanding blockchain infrastructure.

There is, however, an important gap between what is possible and what has actually been announced.

Ripple Already Has a SWIFT Connection

The speculation is not entirely without foundation.

Ripple Treasury already lists a relationship with SWIFT through treasury-management infrastructure inherited from Ripple’s acquisition of GTreasury.

Its platform supports SWIFT connectivity, and Ripple Treasury displays SWIFT Compatible Application certification for cash management.

That puts a Ripple-owned business inside the SWIFT ecosystem.

But it does not mean SWIFT has integrated XRP, XRP Ledger, or Ripple Payments.

The existing relationship primarily focuses on connecting corporate treasury systems to banks and the SWIFT messaging infrastructure.

SWIFT’s Blockchain Ledger Does Not Include XRP

SWIFT is simultaneously pushing deeper into blockchain.

Its shared ledger is being developed with major global banks to enable always-on cross-border transactions using regulated digital value, including tokenized bank deposits. SWIFT’s strategy is to connect emerging blockchain infrastructure with the financial institutions already using its network.

Oracle and other enterprise infrastructure providers are also building connections into that architecture.

So far, however, SWIFT has not named Ripple, XRP or XRPL as part of the shared ledger’s architecture.

Former SWIFT Chief Innovation Officer Tom Zschach also dismissed XRP integration speculation earlier this year, although his comments represent his own view rather than an official statement from SWIFT’s current management.

Could SWIFT and Ripple Still Partner?

Nothing prevents the companies from announcing a future commercial or interoperability agreement.

Ripple operates cross-border payment, stablecoin, custody, and treasury businesses that increasingly overlap with the institutional markets SWIFT is targeting. Ripple Treasury’s existing SWIFT connectivity also means the two companies are not strangers.

But that is different from SWIFT adopting XRP as a settlement asset.

As of Sept. 29, neither company has announced a new XRP-related partnership at Sibos, and SWIFT’s published shared-ledger architecture does not require XRP.

For now, the confirmed story is narrower than the social-media narrative: Ripple already has a foothold in the SWIFT ecosystem, but the leap from that relationship to XRP integration remains unconfirmed.
