Who can remember when Meghan Markle and Prince Harry told us they were leaving the royal family for a life of financial independence?
Maybe I’m mistaken, but I’ve always thought financial independence meant paying your own bills. Like the rent on your $18 million mansion. And the cost of your own security detail.
How many times have we been told that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are multi-millionaires and don’t have to rely on the black-hearted royal family to support them?
Yeah, it seems that isn’t quite the case.
According to Vanity Fair, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle only agreed to foot the bill for the renovations made to Frogmore Cottage after Prince Charles agreed to pay for their security at an estimated cost of $5 million per year.
This power couple who want to live in Malibu and rub shoulders with the rich and famous are already taking more than a decade to repay $3 million to Harry’s family.
Are they for real?
In a laughable but entirely predictable turn of events, it seems that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry actually believed that the British taxpayer(!) would continue to foot the bill for their security as they pursued a life of celebrity in the United States.
They had fully expected that British taxpayers would continue to foot the bill for their protection. But then the rug was pulled from under their feet, and they had to ask Prince Charles to step in.
Not only could Meghan and Harry not afford to pay for their security detail, but unless Prince Charles had stepped in to cover the cost, they would have been unable to make the monthly payments of $21,000 for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage.
And we are supposed to believe this is a couple who can afford to live a life of wealth and celebrity in Hollywood? Give me a break!
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the royal family, they claimed that independence from taxpayer money was one of their priorities.
So how does that fit with them believing the taxpayer would continue to foot the bill for their security?
It would seem that the couple is chasing a lifestyle that they are nowhere near able to afford.
I wonder if this is the life that Meghan Markle envisaged the day that she fluttered her eyelashes and pressed her phone number into Prince Harry’s hand.
That golden stagecoach and Princess Diana-like adulation seem a world away now, don’t they?
All of a sudden, a celebrity chef from Toronto isn’t looking all that bad. He may not be a British prince, but I’m guessing he can pay his rent!
This brings us to the inevitable question: How will Meghan Markle and Harry be able to afford the lavish lifestyle that Megan so desperately craves?
Sure, $5 million per year may seem like a lot of money to you and me, but it’s pocket change to the type of people that Meghan Markle wishes to fraternize with in Hollywood.
One thing is for sure. Eventually, Tyler Perry will want his mansion back. Although I’m sure he’ll let Harry and Meghan take that ridiculous privacy screen they bought from Walmart with them!
It will be a long time before Meghan and Prince Harry enjoy that level of luxury again.
It seems to me that the Duchess of Malibu and Hollywood Harry have gone all-in on this new tell-all book, although even that looks like amateur hour and not the large-scale money-spinning project the couple imagined.
What comes next? I’m not sure Disney voice-over work and reading Thomas the Tank Engine will cover the bills in Los Angeles.
