Key Takeaways

  • XRP broke above $1.60 for the first time since February 4, reaching roughly $1.64.
  • Santiment recorded 1,917 XRP transactions worth at least $100,000, the highest count in about a month.
  • The XRP Ledger added 3,647 new wallets during the rally, though new addresses do not necessarily represent new investors.

XRP climbed above $1.60 on Sept. 22 for the first time since February 4, as a jump in large transfers and new wallet creation accompanied the rally. The token traded around $1.64 after reaching the mid-$1.60s.

Blockchain analytics firm Santiment counted 1,917 XRP transactions worth at least $100,000 and 3,647 newly created wallets during the move.

Both figures point to increased activity, though neither shows whether large holders were buying XRP or whether each new wallet belongs to a new investor.

Whale Transactions Reach a One-Month High

Santiment’s count of 1,917 transfers valued at $100,000 or more marked XRP’s strongest high-value transaction activity in roughly a month. The spike occurred as the price moved through $1.60, a level it had not reached in nearly eight months.

The timing makes the data notable. Large holders were moving XRP during the breakout, while traders pushed the price beyond its recent range. But calling the transfers “whale buying” would go further than the metric allows.

A blockchain transaction can represent a purchase-related transfer, a sale, an exchange moving funds between its own wallets, or an investor reorganizing holdings.

Santiment’s count captures the size and number of on-chain movements; it does not identify the intent behind each one.

That distinction will matter if the rally continues. Sustained activity alongside higher prices would show that large transfers remain part of the market’s advance.

A brief spike followed by quieter trading would suggest the latest reading was concentrated around the initial breakout.

The price move itself has also put a recent trading level back in focus. XRP moved through the $1.56-$1.60 region and approached its reported 24-hour high near $1.65. Whether it can hold above $1.60 after the first surge will offer a clearer test of buyers’ willingness to support the new price range.

New Wallets Add Another Sign of Activity

Santiment also recorded 3,647 new XRP wallets as the token rose. Unlike the large-transfer count, this measure tracks addresses appearing on the XRP Ledger for the first time.

More new addresses can indicate that activity is spreading beyond wallets already in use. It cannot establish how many new people entered the market: one person can create several wallets, and exchanges or other services may generate addresses for operational reasons.

The two on-chain measures therefore answer different questions. The whale metric shows how many high-value transfers took place.

Wallet growth shows how many new addresses appeared. Together with the price increase, they describe an unusually active period for XRP, without proving that either group caused the rally.

XRP was reported near $1.64, up almost 8% over 24 hours, with trading volume around $7.3 billion. Those market figures reflect substantial turnover, but volume also counts both purchases and sales.

Traders will need to watch whether the price, transfer count, and wallet growth remain elevated beyond one session.

XRPL Growth and ETF Filing Form the Backdrop

The rally comes against a broader expansion of activity tied to the XRP Ledger.

In a September report, Evernorth said the value held on the network averaged $4.26 billion during the second quarter of 2026. That measure combines tokenized assets and RLUSD balances on XRPL; it is a quarterly average, rather than a live balance recorded during this week’s breakout.

Ripple reported about $2.396 billion of RLUSD in circulation as of September 3. RLUSD operates across multiple networks, so its total circulating supply should not be treated as the amount held specifically on XRPL. Both figures describe the ecosystem’s scale, but neither directly measures demand for XRP on Sept. 22.

Institutional access to the token has also expanded. On September 18, Bitwise filed a post-effective amendment to the registration statement for its XRP ETF.

The document updates an existing product’s filing; it is not an application announcing a new fund.

For now, the clearest development is the convergence of a price breakout, a one-month high in large transfers, and a rise in new addresses.

Those readings show that XRP’s move was accompanied by increased market and network activity. Whether they signal a lasting trend depends on what follows the initial surge.
