Key Takeaways

  • Tony Edward criticized extreme XRP forecasts and claims that every central bank will adopt the token.
  • David Gokhshtein argued that predictions reaching $50,000 damage XRP’s credibility.
  • The discussion highlights a divide between XRP supporters over price expectations and evidence of adoption.

Predictions that XRP could reach $10,000 or even $50,000 are drawing criticism from within its own community, with Tony Edward and David Gokhshtein questioning whether the hype is undermining the asset’s credibility.

Speaking on Gokhshtein’s The Breakdown, Edward rejected the idea that universal institutional adoption would justify such prices, arguing that XRP faces major competition.

The comments come as wild price calls continue to circulate around the community.

Edward Challenges $10,000 XRP Price Claims

During the discussion, Gokhshtein asked whether influencers predicting five-figure XRP prices were hurting adoption.

Edward agreed, describing the claims as “ridiculous” and “outlandish.”

He recalled his blunt response to similar predictions during an earlier market cycle.

“If you’re thinking XRP is going to $10,000, you’re smoking crack,” he said.

Edward argued that investors should consider the valuations implied by those targets rather than accept forecasts based on sweeping claims about future demand.

“Think about the market capitalization. These people are just hyping you up. Have something more realistic,” he said.

At $10,000 per token, XRP would command a market capitalization of roughly $631 trillion.

This would represent around 120 times Nvidia’s approximately $5.3 trillion valuation.

His objection also extended to claims that every central bank would use XRP.

Institutions and industries would choose different networks, he argued, leaving room for competing blockchains.

“It’s a multi-chain world,” Edward said.

He encouraged investors to maintain realistic expectations and diversify, adding that Bitcoin was his largest holding.

Gokhshtein Says Extreme XRP Price Targets Hurt Credibility

Gokhshtein described encountering social media videos forecasting XRP prices of $10,000, $25,000, and up to $50,000.

He recalled one creator predicting $25,000 just nine days before the previous year ended.

“This is the reason why nobody takes it seriously,” Gokhshtein said.

In his view, those scenarios relied on extraordinary assumptions about money flowing into XRP, including investors selling other crypto and precious metals to buy the token.

However, Gokhshtein remained open to substantially higher prices, describing $12 XRP as “doable.”

He also acknowledged previously posting a $10,000 XRP prediction himself, saying he had been “trolling.”

Jake Claver’s $10,000 XRP Price Call Shows the Divide

The criticism comes as some XRP advocates continue to defend five-figure targets.

Jake Claver has reaffirmed his prediction that XRP could reach $10,000 by late 2026 or early 2027.

“I still think that,” Claver said when revisiting the forecast.

His argument starts with XRP climbing to between $50 and $100, driven by organic demand and bank adoption.

He then anticipates what he calls a “systemic administrative repricing” as institutions hold and use the asset.

However, Claver previously predicted XRP would reach $100 by the end of 2025, a target that did not materialize.

XRP Adoption Takes Center Stage

Edward’s criticism did amount to a complete rejection of XRP’s price potential.

Earlier in the discussion, he argued that Ripple needed to demonstrate how its business activities translate into use of the XRP Ledger.

Partnerships and growth in Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin were insufficient on their own, he said.

Investors needed evidence of builders, participants, transactions, and value moving onto the network.

“They have to show there’s adoption of the XRP ledger,” Edward said.

For Edward, these measurable developments are the strongest basis for assessing XRP rather than relying on viral predictions.

“Who’s building,” he asked, “who’s participating on the blockchain?”
