Key Takeaways

  • Ripple and Robinhood have expanded their partnership across three areas: RLUSD stablecoin settlement, institutional financing through Ripple Prime, and corporate treasury management.
  • RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp, with a launch in the Robinhood app expected later in 2026.
  • The agreement links Ripple’s $2.4 billion-plus stablecoin business to Robinhood’s 28.6 million funded customers, though direct XRP purchases are not part of the announcement.

Ripple and Robinhood have expanded their partnership to integrate the RLUSD stablecoin, institutional trading services, and corporate treasury management across Robinhood’s financial operations.

The Oct. 27 announcement brings together Ripple USD (RLUSD), Ripple Prime and Ripple Treasury, extending the companies’ existing relationship beyond cryptocurrency trading.

RLUSD is already available on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood. The companies expect to introduce the stablecoin to Robinhood’s main retail app later this year.

Robinhood will also use RLUSD on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for institutional settlement, while Ripple Treasury will support its internal cash and liquidity operations.

The agreement comes as RLUSD’s market capitalization exceeds $2.4 billion and the global stablecoin market surpasses $300 billion, according to Ripple.

RLUSD Expands Across Robinhood Chain, Bitstamp, and XRP Ledger

The stablecoin component is central to the expanded partnership.

Ripple said RLUSD will serve both retail and institutional customers, with different applications across Robinhood’s businesses.

On the retail side, the planned Robinhood app integration could introduce RLUSD to a platform serving 28.6 million funded customers globally. However, that figure represents Robinhood’s entire funded customer base, not the number of users expected to hold or transact in RLUSD.

For institutions, Robinhood plans to use RLUSD on XRPL to settle transactions, including activity associated with Bitstamp’s institutional business.

Stablecoins can move dollar-denominated value between trading platforms without requiring every transaction to pass through conventional banking systems.

That can be useful for institutional trading operations that run outside normal banking hours, particularly when firms need to move collateral or settle transactions across different markets.

Ripple President Monica Long said the partnership reflects demand for infrastructure connecting customer-facing financial products with internal operations.

The agreement also gives Ripple a distribution opportunity for RLUSD, which launched in December 2024.

Unlike XRP, RLUSD is designed to maintain a value of approximately $1, backed by reserves.

Ripple Prime Brings Financing Across 20 Digital Assets

The expanded agreement also covers Ripple Prime, Ripple’s institutional brokerage and financing business.

Ripple Prime already provides Bitstamp with lending and margin financing services across approximately 20 digital assets.

The arrangement also allows Ripple Prime clients to access spot trading on Bitstamp.

According to the announcement, Ripple Prime is expected to support perpetual futures trading on Bitstamp later in 2026. That would extend the relationship from spot market access and financing into derivatives.

For institutional traders, prime brokerage services can combine financing, liquidity access, and trading relationships that would otherwise need to be managed separately.

The partnership could therefore help Robinhood strengthen its institutional offering while giving Ripple Prime customers additional trading venues. However, the companies have not disclosed financing volumes, expected revenue or the value of transactions anticipated under the expanded arrangement.

The announcement also does not establish that all 20 supported digital assets will become available to every Robinhood customer.

Robinhood to Integrate Ripple Treasury for Global Cash Management

The third component involves Robinhood’s internal financial operations.

Robinhood plans to integrate Ripple Treasury to manage cash balances, liquidity, payments, cash flow forecasting, risk, and intercompany netting.

Intercompany netting allows businesses to offset payments owed between subsidiaries, reducing the number of transactions required to move funds within a corporate group.

The agreement follows Ripple’s Oct. 26 launch of new treasury capabilities, including automated workflows and a feature called 24/7 Returns.

The latter allows eligible corporate customers to earn returns on qualifying digital assets, including RLUSD, subject to program requirements.

Ripple said the treasury platform combines traditional cash management with digital payment infrastructure, potentially allowing companies to manage liquidity beyond conventional banking hours.

However, Ripple and Robinhood have not disclosed how much of Robinhood’s cash will be managed through the platform or whether Robinhood will use the new 24/7 Returns feature.

What Does the Robinhood Partnership Mean for XRP?

The announcement also raises questions about whether Ripple’s growing institutional relationships will translate into demand for XRP.

The partnership specifically identifies RLUSD for institutional settlement on XRPL, alongside Ripple Prime and Ripple Treasury.

XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger and is used to pay network fees and meet certain account requirements. However, settling transactions in RLUSD does not automatically require institutions to purchase an equivalent value of XRP.

Robinhood has not announced plans to hold XRP in its corporate treasury or use it as the primary settlement asset under the expanded agreement.

The more immediate opportunity for Ripple is increased adoption of RLUSD and its financial infrastructure.

For XRP investors, future transaction volumes on XRPL, institutional use of the network, and any additional XRP-specific integrations would provide clearer evidence of the partnership’s impact.

The announcement establishes a broader commercial relationship, but the companies have not disclosed financial targets or projected transaction volumes.

With RLUSD expanding across Robinhood’s retail and institutional businesses, Ripple is seeking a larger role in the infrastructure supporting digital asset trading, financing, and corporate finance.

The next milestones will be RLUSD’s arrival in the Robinhood app, the launch of perpetual futures support through Ripple Prime, and the rollout of Ripple Treasury across Robinhood’s operations.
