  • Panzer Dragoon Remake was released today after a surprising announcement during a Nintendo Direct.
  • The game features on-rails shooting gameplay and some fantastical alien worlds to explore.
  • If you’ve never played the game, then you need to do so immediately.

After what seemed like a never-ending wait, we finally got another Nintendo Direct today. And it was insane. Multiple Switch games received surprise releases, and one of them – Panzer Dragoon: Remake – was a hell of a shock.

Panzer Dragoon was one of the most underrated games from the Sega Saturn era, and the remake is immediately available on Nintendo Switch.

Panzer Dragoon Never Got the Love It Deserved

Panzer Dragoon is one of those games that never seems to get enough attention. When people debate the best games ever made, it really deserves to land somewhere on those lists. The trouble is that not enough gamers have played it. Hopefully, that’s about to change.

The game features some pretty fantastical alien worlds and has you flying through them on a weird dragon-like creature. As you fly through the stages, you encounter wave after wave of enemies, ranging from tiny motes of light to gargantuan sandworms.

If the remake sells well enough, this could spark a renaissance for the Panzer Dragoon series. Alongside its excellent sequels and prequels, I’d love to see a Switch release for the little-known Panzer Dragoon Saga , which took the franchise away from rail shooters and into JRPG territory.

This Is the Perfect Time for Lesser-Known Games to Get a Shot at Fame

One of the rare silver linings of the coronavirus pandemic is that it has given people more time to play games. Because of that, titles like Panzer Dragoon that have been all but forgotten are getting a second chance.

And there are other franchises that deserve more love too. Games like the Soul Reaver series – which has been dead for over a decade – or Oni, which no one talks about much anymore.

Who knows, maybe this will be the time when all those forgotten masterpieces of ages past start to make a comeback.

If you’re one of the millions of gamers who’ve never tried Panzer Dragoon, stop what you’re doing and download it right now.

What else are you doing to do during that coronavirus lockdown? Stare out of the window?
