Key Takeaways

  • OKX Money combines stablecoin savings, transfers and card spending in a standalone app initially available in participating emerging markets.
  • Eligible USDG balances can earn up to 10% APY, with no staking or lock-up required.
  • Revolut and Crypto.com offer overlapping services, putting OKX in competition with established digital finance platforms.

OKX launched OKX Money on Oct. 6, introducing a standalone app that combines dollar-denominated stablecoin balances, international payments and spending cards, with advertised annual percentage yields of up to 10%.

Unveiled during the company’s OKX Now product event, the app initially targets participating markets across Latin America, Africa, South Asia and the Middle East.

The launch expands OKX’s push beyond cryptocurrency trading into everyday financial services. Its pitch centers on giving customers access to digital dollars while reducing the costs of sending money and spending internationally.

However, the headline yield and cashback rates apply only to qualifying customers and eligible balances or purchases.

Digital Dollar Savings With Up to 10% APY

Customers can fund OKX Money accounts using more than 50 supported local currencies, with deposits converted into dollar-backed stablecoins, according to the company’s announcement.

The app supports USDG, USDC and USDT, allowing users to hold dollar-denominated balances and convert between supported stablecoins without conversion fees.

For qualifying customers, eligible USDG balances can automatically earn up to 10% APY without staking or locking funds. OKX says payouts occur weekly and balances remain available for spending.

The yield offer applies only to eligible USDG balances; the announcement does not extend the advertised rate to USDC or USDT.

OKX is positioning the service for markets where currency fluctuations and limited access to banking services can complicate saving and international transactions. Holding dollar-pegged tokens gives customers dollar exposure through the app, although their purchasing power in local currency still depends on exchange rates.

The announcement does not explain how the maximum yield is funded, disclose balance caps, or detail every qualification requirement. Those omissions leave important questions about how broadly customers can access the advertised return.

Cards Combine Zero FX Markups With Cashback

OKX Money also offers virtual and physical cards for international spending without an additional foreign-exchange conversion markup, according to the company.

Its website identifies Mastercard as the acceptance network, supporting purchases online and in stores wherever Mastercard is accepted.

Eligible customers can receive up to 10% cashback on qualifying purchases through a five-tier loyalty program. The announcement does not provide the full tier thresholds, spending caps, or excluded purchase categories.

Alongside card payments, the app enables international stablecoin transfers, which OKX describes as instant.

The company says conventional cross-border transactions can involve conversion costs of 2% to 5%, presenting stablecoin payments as an alternative. That estimate is OKX’s claim, not a universal cost comparison.

A referral program adds another incentive. Customers can earn commissions when invited users activate and use their cards, plus smaller commissions from eligible referrals generated by their network in participating markets.

The launch announcement describes zero FX fees specifically as the absence of an added conversion markup; it does not provide a comprehensive schedule of other potential charges.

Revolut and Crypto.com Offer Overlapping Services

OKX Money enters a market where competitors already connect digital assets with everyday spending.

Revolut offers 1:1 conversion between dollars and USDC or USDT, subject to volume limits and applicable terms.

Its UK website also describes spending those stablecoins through Revolut cards with zero exchange fees, while noting that network fees and fair-use conditions may apply.

Crypto.com also offers Visa prepaid cards that pay rewards in CRO. Its published card tiers link benefits to subscription payments or CRO staking, with reward caps and eligibility conditions.

These products overlap with parts of OKX Money’s offering. OKX’s proposition brings stablecoin savings, automatic USDG earnings, transfers and card rewards together in one separate app.
