Key Takeaways

  • Aster Chain finally launched the first phase of its mainnet, focused on privacy for futures trading and with no fees.
  • The launch happens in steps. Partnerships come tomorrow, and staking for ASTER token holders starts this week.
  • Aster aims to rival Hyperliquid in futures trading by offering better privacy.

Aster, the BNB Chain-native perpetual futures DEX backed by YZi Labs, officially kicked off the genesis phase of Aster Chain, its long-awaited privacy-first Layer 1 blockchain, on March 17.

This marks a pivotal upgrade for one of the leading decentralized perpetual trading platforms, shifting from reliance on external chains to full control.

The Phased Rollout

Aster announced that the first phase of its mainnet has officially been released, along with a block explorer, after teasing it for months.

The mainnet launch tackles a key issue with DeFi: the “transparency trap.”

Most blockchains make every position, order, and transaction public, allowing for front-running, position hunting, and liquidation attacks.

Aster Chain addresses this with Account Privacy on by default.

Every order uses zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs of encryption, and transactions pass through one-time stealth addresses.

Wallets become untraceable; no one can trace, correlate, or reconstruct transactions. Everything remains on-chain verifiable.

The mainnet has launched, but it’s not fully released yet and will be rolled out in phases.

The team designed a deliberate, phased sequence to ensure stability and community involvement:

  • Chain Genesis — Live now. Core infrastructure, privacy architecture, explorer (asterdex.com/en/explorer), and cross-chain bridging are operational.

  • Partnership Reveal — Scheduled for March 19.

  • Public Staking for ASTER Holders — Opens later this week, giving token holders early yield opportunities and governance influence.

  • Ecosystem Expansion + Aster Code Partners Program — Builders can create specialized vaults, collaborative DeFi products, and custom trading tools via Aster Code, the developer integration layer.

  • Brand & UI Upgrade — A refreshed interface and rebrand will follow to align with new L1 capabilities.

Looking ahead, the 2026 roadmap includes on-chain governance, “Smart Money” tools for copying top traders, fiat on-ramps/off-ramps, and continued UI/UX optimization.

The mainnet launch also unlocks staking rewards and deeper token utility for ASTER holders in Q2.

Aster’s Aspirations to Rival Hyperliquid—and Market Share Reality

Aster started strong, backed by Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) and his firm, YZI Labs.

Early on, it briefly overtook Hyperliquid in trading volume.

In late 2025, Aster hit 24-hour trades exceeding $29 billion on some days, with monthly volumes peaking at $259 billion, token price surging, and market share climbing into the mid-teens.

Competitors like Lighter also gained ground, pushing Hyperliquid’s dominance down to around 38% in September 2025.

However, it wasn’t long before Hyperliquid reclaimed a 70% market share, following the launch of products like HIP-3.

At the time of writing Hyperliquid reported $178 billion monthly volume versus Aster’s $77 billion.

In the past 24 hours, Hyperliquid processed roughly $3.89 billion against Aster’s $1.97 billion.

With features like full control over parameters, execution, and upgrades, and adding default ZK privacy to block manipulation and predatory liquidations, Aster could claw back lost ground.

Whether the privacy edge translates into lasting market share gains remains uncertain.

However, the phased rollout, upcoming staking, and Aster Code program give the ecosystem multiple levers to drive adoption.
