  • The latest episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver featured Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5.
  • Oliver expressed his apparent excitement at ‘murdering robot dinosaurs with flaming arrows’ in Horizon Forbidden West.
  • The quip is likely the work of a PlayStation fan among the writing staff.

It sure sounds like Last Week Tonight host John Oliver counts a PlayStation fan among the writing team that piece together the weekly HBO satirical show.

Sony’s upcoming next-gen PlayStation 5 made an unlikely appearance in the most recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver aired yesterday .

Oliver used the highly-anticipated console to highlight a rise in evictions and the lack of affordable housing, which the ongoing-pandemic has only exacerbated in equal measure.

Following a clip depicting a crowd rushing to secure housing vouchers and the subsequent injuries caused by trampling, Oliver noted:

No one should ever be trampled by a crowd of people out of desperation to get rental assistance. There are only two times when trampling is remotely acceptable. The day after Thanksgiving – that’s America’s national trampling holiday. And, whatever day in the future the PS5 comes out.

He continues:

I don’t care that it looks like an alien’s waffle maker or a penguin designed by Apple, it’s going to have Horizon Forbidden West as an exclusive release. And, I will stomp anyone that stands between me and that game. I want to murder dinosaur robots with flaming arrows, and I want to do it now.

Unless Oliver moonlights as a hardcore gamer, it more than likely one of the writing staff slid in the quip to reflect their excitement at the upcoming sequel to the acclaimed 2017 PlayStation 4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn.

John Oliver Has a PlayStation Fan in His Writing Staff

While John Oliver prides himself on his cutting political commentary on politics and current affairs, he may wish to brush up on his gaming knowledge.

Horizon Forbidden West won’t be available at launch. The game won’t release until 2021 at the earliest as developer Guerilla Games revealed earlier this month.
