Key Takeaways
A claim linking XRP to BRICS Pay has caught the attention of XRP holders, raising hopes that Ripple’s payment technology could eventually find a route into one of the largest emerging cross-border payment initiatives.
An X post circulating among the XRP community claims that XRP has access to the BRICS payment platform through Standard Chartered, pointing to the bank’s connections with both blockchain payments and BRICS markets.

There are pieces of truth behind the theory. But they do not yet add up to an XRP integration.
BRICS Pay’s own documentation describes the project as a decentralized cross-border payment platform developed within the framework of the BRICS Business Council. It aims to connect national and commercial payment networks and allow settlements in national currencies.

Its website specifically lists systems including India’s UPI, Brazil’s Pix, Russia’s SBP and WeChat Pay when describing the interoperability it wants to provide. XRP, the XRP Ledger, Ripple and RLUSD are not listed among those payment systems.

Standard Chartered does have a documented relationship with Ripple. It invested in Ripple in 2016 as part of its push to explore distributed ledger technology and develop new digital solutions for trade, payments, and transaction banking. The investment also gave Standard Chartered an observer seat on Ripple’s board, underscoring the bank’s early institutional ties to the company.

In 2017, Ripple announced that Standard Chartered Singapore and India’s Axis Bank would use RippleNet for live corporate cross-border payments. The system used Ripple’s enterprise blockchain infrastructure to move payments between the two banks in minutes.
That provides a historical Ripple-to-Standard Chartered connection, but it does not establish a Standard Chartered-to-BRICS Pay-to-XRP transaction route.
The bank has since become involved in another major blockchain payments project, this time with SWIFT.
In July, SWIFT said its blockchain-based ledger was ready for initial use, with 17 banks preparing to pilot cross-border transactions using tokenized deposits. Standard Chartered is among the participating institutions.
Implemented in 9 months. Global from day one.
Swift's blockchain-based ledger is ready for use, with ANZ, BNP Paribas, BNY, Citi, DBS Bank, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), FirstRand, HSBC, Itaú Unibanco, Lloyds Banking Group, Mashreq, MUFG, OCBC, Standard Chartered, UBS, UOB and… pic.twitter.com/kOg9DumptG
— Swift (@swiftcommunity) July 9, 2026
However, XRP is not part of SWIFT’s announced setup. SWIFT says its ledger will orchestrate bank-issued tokenized deposits, with final settlement continuing through existing systems.
BRICS Pay is also careful about its relationship with SWIFT. Rather than claiming it will replace the incumbent network, BRICS Pay says its Decentralized Cross-border Messaging System, or DCMS, is intended to operate alongside existing infrastructure.
The excitement is easier to understand when looking at what Ripple is already building.
Ripple’s cross-border payment platform can move value using fiat currencies, stablecoins and cryptocurrencies including XRP. The XRP Ledger (XRPL) itself supports cross-currency payments and can settle transactions within seconds.
Ripple has also increasingly pushed RLUSD into the same market.
The dollar-backed stablecoin is issued on XRPL and Ethereum, and Ripple says it can be used for near-instant cross-border settlement.
In April 2025, Ripple formally added RLUSD to Ripple Payments and said cross-border providers BKK Forex and iSend were already using it in payment and treasury flows.
That gives Ripple two potential tools for international payments: XRP as a bridge asset between currencies and RLUSD as a dollar-denominated settlement asset.
BRICS Pay is trying to solve a related problem by linking otherwise fragmented national payment systems.
For now, however, those are parallel developments rather than one confirmed network. Standard Chartered’s involvement across Ripple’s history, SWIFT’s blockchain project and global payments infrastructure creates an interesting overlap, but there is still no official evidence that a BRICS Pay transaction is being settled through XRP or RLUSD.
Until BRICS Pay, Ripple or a participating financial institution announces that connection, the XRP-BRICS link remains a possible interoperability story, not an integration already in production.
