Key Takeaways

  • Ripple Prime is among more than 50 financial firms involved in DTCC’s tokenization working group, alongside BlackRock, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs.
  • DTCC plans to launch its tokenization service in October, building on infrastructure that safeguards more than $114 trillion in assets.
  • XRP traded near $1.30 on Oct. 20, with bullish traders eyeing a move to $1.80– $2, although DTCC has not announced any role for XRP in its services.

Ripple’s institutional business has emerged as a participant in Wall Street’s expanding tokenization efforts, with Ripple Prime appearing among the companies collaborating on the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation’s (DTCC) securities initiative.

The project aims to bring traditionally held financial assets onto blockchain networks while preserving existing ownership rights and investor protections.

DTCC, whose depository subsidiary holds more than $114 trillion in assets, plans to launch its tokenization service this month.

However, Ripple Prime’s participation does not mean DTCC has selected the XRP Ledger or XRP as settlement infrastructure.

Ripple Prime Joins BlackRock and JPMorgan in DTCC Tokenization Initiative

DTCC announced in May that more than 50 financial institutions and technology providers were helping develop its tokenization service.

Participants include BlackRock, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Circle, Citadel Securities, and Ripple Prime.

The initiative is designed to convert securities held by DTCC’s Depository Trust Company into blockchain-based representations that retain their underlying legal rights. In July, DTCC confirmed that tokenized securities had been used in live production trades, marking an important step toward the October launch.

For Ripple Prime, participation provides exposure to discussions shaping institutional tokenization standards.

This is important: DTCC has identified other blockchain connections for its service, and membership in a working group alone does not establish direct XRP adoption.

XRP Ledger Upgrade Nears as Lending Protocol Awaits Approval

The institutional development coincides with an upcoming amendment to the XRP Ledger software.

A package of bug fixes, known as fixCleanup3_4_0, is expected to activate around Oct. 23, provided validator support remains sufficient.

The fixes address issues involving token permissions, lending calculations, and vault accounting. However, the proposed lending protocol remains inactive. As of Oct. 19, its lending amendment had secured 19 validator votes, while the associated vault amendment had 21.

Both require 29 votes to be maintained for two weeks before activation.

The protocol is intended to support institutional lending, potentially including liquidity arrangements for cross-border payment providers.

XRP Price Prediction: Can Ripple’s DTCC Connection Fuel a $2 Rally?

Despite the institutional headlines, XRP has struggled to regain momentum.

The cryptocurrency traded around $1.29 on Oct. 20, down from approximately $1.49 at the beginning of the month.

Recent price action places immediate support near $1.25 to $1.28, while a recovery above $1.40 could improve short-term sentiment. A move toward $1.80 would require a gain of roughly 38% from $1.30. Reaching $2 would represent an increase of approximately 54%.

Those targets remain speculative rather than confirmed price projections.

Ripple Prime’s DTCC involvement could strengthen the broader institutional narrative surrounding Ripple, but it does not establish additional demand for XRP.

For investors, the key question is whether growing participation in traditional finance will eventually translate into measurable XRP Ledger adoption.

Until then, DTCC’s tokenization launch and XRP’s potential price recovery remain separate developments.
