The pandemic has left us wondering how many next-gen consoles will be available to the masses. We know Sony is doubling PlayStation 5 production due to demand, but they might be limiting sales as well.
According to ResetEra user Expy , the PlayStation store will limit console pre-orders to one box. Adding more than one will provide an error message based on the site’s Javascript. This also means no buying the all-digital and a disc-based box. Sorry, collectors.
The error message reads:
You can only purchase one version of the PS5™ Console: Disc or Digital. You have already added one PS5™ console to your cart.
Fortunately, this will also prevent scalpers from taking advantage of the limited supply.
Expy also notes that all PlayStation 5 compatible products will have a unique badge next to their name. The badge is currently hidden, but delving into the CSS reveals one next to most products – including the DualShock 4.
That’s right. You can use the DualShock 4 with the PlayStation 5, should this news be accurate.
We can also speculate that pre-orders are coming soon, considering the main site is all prepped for sales.
Now we’re merely waiting on a price. Will Sony price-up the console due to the pandemic, or will they make it as accessible as possible? Rumor is the two SKUs are here to provide price flexibility.
It’s any wonder if Xbox will follow suit. Microsoft’s box might come in three models, offering the ultimate price range should that be the case. The platform’s big event is July 23rd, though it’s been said the show will only focus on games. Does that mean no price reveal?
Or Sony will take the opportunity to one-up Xbox. This week could be the tell-all.
