Web3 gaming heats up this summer as Axie Infinity reveals new gameplay features ahead of playtests, Star Atlas’ economy sees significant activity, and Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis (ROLG) prepares to reward in-game land owners.
Development for Axie Infinity’s upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), Atia’s Legacy, is in full swing, and following some community feedback, the team has revealed some fresh updates ahead of the game’s playtest.
Seemingly, much of the feedback relates to gameplay, mainly combat, as players call for the game to have deep mechanics. So, the Axie Infinity devs came up with a few ideas.
According to the post, that game’s team-based combat system will feature a new mechanic called “crowd control.” This will give players the ability to cause status debuffs and negative effects on enemies depending on the makeup of their Axie squad.
In addition, “squad leaders” will be introduced, which are non-axie avatars that could have separate abilities and special Axie bonding features. Or as the post writes:
“Squad leaders would be an avatar that empowers you to better manage your squad. Think of them like the hero around which your allies rally.“
Axie Infinity will be launching a playtest for Atia’s Legacy sometime this summer.
Solana-based space-faring action RPG title, Star Atlas, has rolled out a handful of games and features for early adopters to use and stir economic activity within the ecosystem.
As per the game’s Q2 2025 economic report, its in-game gross domestic product (GDP) contracted sharply by 71% in Q2 due to “suppressed and volatile market conditions.”
But, it’s showing signs of recovery as the ATLAS token locker recorded an all-time high balance of 2.147 billion ATLAS worth approximately $1.8 million.
Though it may seem a little confusing for an unreleased Web3 game to have any economic activity, the truth is that there are still plenty of things for players to do in the lead up to its launch.
At present, players can play Star Atlas Holosim, a browser-based game that allows players to begin engaging and explore the game’s universe and mechanics with zero crypto investment or blockchain tech. It’s a smart gateway into Web3 gaming.
They can also craft and rent fleets of spaceships, which will serve to provide passive resource income as they trawl the galaxy for rare minerals, cargo, and data to boost a player’s operations.
There’s also Star Atlas Golden Era (SAGE), a browser-based grand strategy game, which is akin to a simpler version of EVE Online.
One of its key features is that it features ATLAS Prime, a service that allows users to pay for transactions using the native ATLAS token instead of Solana (SOL).
There are also NFT-based crew members to buy. These can be used as in-game avatars, crew members for your spaceship, crafting personnel, and more.
There’s plenty more for Web3 gaming players to get up to ahead of the full launch, which is expected later this year. Evidently, there’s plenty of appetite for what Star Atlas is offering, as its ecosystem is already showing signs of promise.
The recently launched MMORPG Ragnarok Landverse: Genesis has announced that Genesis land owners are set to receive their first wave of payouts as part of a $20,000 reward pool.
Participation is simple. First, own and hold Genesis Land NFTs. The higher the tier, the better the odds are of getting a reward. Second, play ROLG and slay monsters to earn Ronin (RON) tokens.
Rewards will officially begin rolling out on July 3, 2025, which will be coupled with the game’s first major update.
