Blockchain and gaming are finally starting to click, with a wave of sleek, high-quality Web3 titles dropping this year.
We’re talking big names like Off the Grid from Gunzilla, Star Atlas by Immutable, and EVE: Frontier from CCP Games—games that look and feel like modern blockbusters but with crypto, digital assets, and open economies baked in.
What’s still missing? Hardware built for this new world. A machine that can handle demanding gameplay while keeping your crypto, wallets, and Web3 identity secure.
To dive into what that looks like, we caught up with Sean Geng, CTO of Web3 gaming platform B3, and Matt Huffman, CEO of custom PC builder Andromeda Insights.
The two are teaming up on something they say could push Web3 gaming—and computing—into its next chapter.
Earlier in June, B3, a Web3 gaming ecosystem founded by ex-Coinbase alumni, acquired Andromeda Insights to build a computer that, by design, serves the Web3 space.
It’s aptly called the B3PC, and according to Geng, it’s a “seriously good machine.”
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Andromeda to bring the B3PC to market. I think it’s the perfect opportunity to deliver a high performance, everyday-usable consumer device that keeps security top of mind in a world where cybersecurity is constantly a threat,” Geng adds.
The CTO explains that other crypto devices, such as the Solana Phone or Sui’s gaming handheld, the SuiPlay0X1, have tried to expand Web3’s hardware reach beyond crypto wallets but have struggled to compete with Apple and Nintendo.
So, why a PC?
Well, according to Geng, the PC market is more evergreen.
Thanks to the fact that consumers have access to similar hardware providers like AMD, Intel, and Nvidia, Web3 PCs could be a lower barrier to entry compared to novel phones or gaming devices. Andromeda’s Matt Huffman explains:
“The B3PC isn’t just about raw power or flashy features. Above all else, it is a tangible representation of our desire to deliver trust, promote ownership, and ensure long-term value for the average gamer.”
Geng says it’s a space where a product, designed to address the needs of gamers and crypto users, could flourish. But the PC gaming community remains skeptical of anything carrying a crypto-related label.
“There’s been some bad blood between PC gamers and web3, dating back to competing over GPUs for mining vs gaming. I think understandably, gamers have viewed crypto as a scam and been turned off from participating.”
That said, attitudes towards the space are changing fast, culturally and politically. Geng also highlights an important trend: Web3 games are making mainstream debuts on Steam and the PlayStation 5 with their on-chain elements largely abstracted.
“If you set out to make a ‘crypto PC’, what are you delivering outside of the same hardware components that exist in current premium gaming PCs? Actually, I think the innovation exists in security, software, and community.
Andromeda’s roots are grounded in challenging the status quo of PC companies. As CEO and founder, Matt Huffman explains, their mission is to deliver top-end gaming systems that meet their clients’ needs, complete with a lifetime service warranty. Huffman adds:
“We strongly believe that gamers deserve more than just the best specs, but long-lasting support that allows the system to evolve with them.”
With B3’s backing, which brings a wealth of Coinbase engineering expertise and, as Geng puts it, “a purpose-driven vision to further the on-chain gaming space”, the B3 Andromeda partnership can deliver something that meets the needs of the crypto audience.
Huffman views recent PC innovation as largely aesthetic. Sure, new screens and flashy components look great, but they fail to find that “sweet spot” between consumer demand, functional features, and Web3.
For these reasons, a Web3-focused PC wasn’t brought to market until the B3PC came along.
The B3PC is touted as powerful computing hardware for gamers of all shapes and sizes. It is compatible with Windows and Linux operating systems.
As Andromeda’s Huffman explains, the B3PC is assembled using its “built-to-order process,” which allows users to customize the system. If users prefer not to customize it, they’ll still have standard options available.
Andromeda are “bleeding edge” PC assemblers, says Geng, who backs their ability to deliver the best-in-class tech hardware to meet the requirements of Web3.
But, he also posits that the B3PC could set a new standard for crypto users, as Geng explains:
“It sets the foundation for future opportunities for B3 as well, both from the PC games coming to B3 (some of which would be better experienced on a gaming machine) as well as putting a device in the hands of the community that has the specs to run AI models, serve secure compute, or host nodes and improve the network.”
However, outside of the chips and hardware that keep the machine running, what about keeping it secure? After all, crypto and on-chain apps are unfortunately rife with viruses, scams, hackers, etc.
No matter how you customize your B3PC, it will always include an integrated crypto wallet and self-destruct storage. Geng says
“Who hasn’t seen those movies where a character can trigger a data wipe of their systems? We thought—why isn’t that a real thing? Privacy is a right, and we made it a reality.”
It has three layers: the standard SSD for everyday activities and applications. The secure “military grade” encrypted SSD for sensitive data (e.g., private keys), and finally, an entirely removable hardware wallet for storing, signing, and using crypto.
“The military grade SSD features two distinct functions: Secure Erase and Self-Destruct. Both of these have their own dedicated buttons on the front of the chassis that allow you to start either process. The secure erase function quickly rewrites all of the data with 0s or 1s, rendering the drive wiped.”
In addition, the self-destruct function activates a separate process that physically burns each of the PC’s flash chips, making the data completely irrecoverable.
For those thinking that you could accidentally hit the switch and wipe your computer away, Huffman reassures that you’ll need to hold the button for a certain amount of time to engage the kill signal. Geng adds:
“Even in the event of a power surge (which the secure SSD has protections against) or physical damage to the machine, the segmentation of the design keeps your tokens secure.”
Flexibility is a must. Therefore, the data wipe functionality only deletes the contents of the secure SSD. Geng explains that the standard SSD and hardware wallet will remain unaffected even if the physical destruction is triggered.
Andromeda has been operating in the U.S. as a bespoke computer firm delivering high-performance gaming PCs for the past four years. ” That’s where my passion started,” Huffman explains.
Huffman’s fascination with the finer details that make high-performance PCs so different from the rest is what drives Andromeda’s love for pushing the boundaries and “seeing what’s possible with hardware.”
“We certainly did not anticipate being a big name in Web3 gaming; however, it does make perfect sense looking back. Giving players agency over their PCs, data, and digital assets perfectly aligns with our mission,” Huffman adds.
Huffman’s humble background in crypto stems from the same curiosity of exploring new tech and discovering ways to empower users with it. “Ultimately,” he adds, Andromeda is a group of builders and tech enthusiasts who “build systems that reflect where we are going.”
“With Web3, we are at a unique crossroads to innovate in a way that puts players first through security and gaming performance.”
B3 launched on Coinbase’s Layer-2, Base, and has attracted a number of games to its ecosystem, ranging from brilliant role-playing games to simplistic arcade-style titles. As Geng states, it’s not all about crypto.
“Ultimately, I think it’s a misnomer to try to attract crypto games,” he adds.
“In my mind, all games will likely eventually become crypto games in the sense that digital assets would live on-chain and be interconnected to the incredible crypto rails and liquidity that exists. That model is just… better, and we will trend that way.”
B3 is moving in two directions. One is striving to make it “dead simple” for developers to build crypto-native games. The other is gearing up for a game chain summer, starting with AAA studios like Supergaming, Parallel, and Reach.”
B3 will also be relaunching Basement with a new XP system and UI for casual web-based players, not just crypto users. But on the crypto side, they’ve also launched a “new experience” called Stake to Win, a gamified staking system on B3 where users support the network and earn tokens through gameplay.
“So what is our goal then? Our role is as a steward and curator to show different models for bringing various components of games on-chain and tapping into crypto’s superpowers. Gaming is stronger if built on an open layer, for the players and the developers. “
Huffman explains that they’ll be scaling operations to meet the demand, which has seen the B3PC pre-orders sell out quickly. They’ll also bring new systems with the latest hardware to customers.
“Scaling for us means expanding our capacity to build, ship, and support more systems without compromising quality. It’s a big milestone for us to work with B3, and together we’ll continue to launch innovative PC gaming products.”
Geng reveals that there are plans to keep upgrading the B3PC’s components, with Andromeda curating their selection. He expresses excitement about bringing IRL products to life for the community. Matt Huffman says together with B3, they’re on “the brink of something special.”
“We’re shaping an era where your PC is not only a powerful machine capable of running the latest and greatest—it’s able to serve as your gateway to a much larger digital ecosystem.”
Seemingly, B3’s gaining traction with Web3 publishers and “top tier studios – folks who ship AAA games” as they’re beginning to see the “performance and sovereignty” that Web3 infrastructure can offer.
“What’s exciting is they’re not just integrating crypto at a surface level. Studios are launching dedicated game chains, giving them full-stack control to publish on their own terms and onboard millions of players into growing on-chain communities.”
The future of the B3PC isn’t guaranteed. But in anticipation of the major shifts arriving in graphical fidelity and AI computation, which will power LLM-powered quests, or full-blown world simulation, Geng believes that by owning the PC hardware stack, B3PCs can be purpose-built for the future in a way that blends crypto and AI natively.
