Key Takeaways

  • CryptoTank argues institutional adoption could drive substantial XRP stockpiling.
  • The theory has reignited focus on extreme $27 October forecasts alongside longer-term bullish calls.
  • Ripple’s partnership with the Florida Gators has been celebrated for expanding XRP’s visibility.

A viral theory about institutional demand for XRP is adding fuel to the token’s bullish price debate, putting an earlier $27 October forecast back in focus.

XRP advocate CryptoTank argued that banks and governments could eventually accumulate large reserves of the token to keep a new financial system running for decades.

The debate comes as Ripple signs a multiyear partnership with Florida Athletics, bringing XRP branding to one of college football’s best-known venues.

However, the token’s price remains around $1.40, leading to some holders to question what will be the catalyst to finally move it higher.

Viral XRP Theory Predicts ‘Extremely High’ Prices

CryptoTank, who posts on X as @Tank2033js, claimed a chart published by the Bank for International Settlements showed that “19,998k XRP” could support 20 billion transactions.

Using his estimate that Citi processes 20 million transactions daily, he calculated that this would cover 1,000 days of the bank’s activity.

He then extended that comparison across thousands of banks, financial institutions, companies, and governments.

In his view, a future financial system operating for 80 to 100 years would encourage institutions to accumulate substantial holdings of XRP.

“The price will be extremely high folks!” he wrote.

However, the September BIS working paper examines a narrower application, using the XRP Ledger to verify the authenticity of official statistics.

The researchers tested a prototype on XRPL’s DevNet, a development network.

Their approach groups data into batches and records cryptographic fingerprints on the ledger, reducing the number of transactions required.

The research does not establish how much XRP global banks would need to hold, nor does it provide a forecast for XRP’s price.

Also, XRPL documentation lists the minimum fee for a standard transaction as 10 drops, equivalent to 0.00001 XRP.

At that minimum, 20 billion separate standard transactions would consume 200,000 XRP in fees, before any fee increases or other requirements.

$27 October XRP Price Call Returns to Focus

Despite the theory’s overstatement, the argument has renewed focus on one of many ambitious XRP forecasts circulating across the industry.

CryptoBull’s prediction is among the most aggressive in terms of timing.

In an August 6 post, the trader asked:

“How does $27 for #XRP sound by end of October 2026?”

Other bullish outlooks place similar prices on substantially longer timelines.

Standard Chartered’s reported forecast puts XRP at $28 by 2030.

However, the bank also cut its end-2026 target from $8 to $2.80 in February.

CryptoInsightUK analyst Will Taylor also outlined an outside scenario in which XRP could reach approximately $28 in his Dec. 27, 2025 newsletter.

His thesis depended on the total crypto market reaching roughly $10 trillion and altcoins capturing a larger share of that valuation.

Taylor said he planned to take substantial profits between $8 and $13.

It’s important to note, however, that the analyst also disclosed that XRP represented around 90% of his portfolio.

Ripple’s Florida Deal Gives XRP Bulls More to Celebrate

Alongside the price debate, Ripple has secured a prominent platform for XRP branding in US college sports.

Florida Athletics announced the partnership on Sept. 4, confirming that the XRP logo would appear on the field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium beginning with the 2026 football season.

The agreement also covers digital properties and event signage.

Ripple will support education on finance and technology for student-athletes and the wider campus community, including traditional finance and digital assets.

University of Florida athletics director Scott Stricklin welcomed the arrangement.

“This partnership brings together two organizations that think boldly about the future, and we look forward to introducing XRP to our fans,” he said.

XRP Price Remains Near $1.40

The publicity has yet to translate into a decisive price breakout.

XRP was trading around $1.40 on Sept. 7, down approximately 1% over 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.

The token was up about 2% over the preceding week, but remained around 61% below its July 2025 record of $3.65.

Reaching $27 from $1.40 would require a gain of approximately 1,830%.

At the current circulating supply of around 62.7 billion tokens, that price would imply an XRP market capitalization of roughly $1.69 trillion, compared with $88 billion today.
