Jim Carrey Could Excel as Joe Biden, but Here’s Why He Might Bomb

  • Jim Carrey could pull off a killer Joe Biden on SNL, but there are warning signs he’ll throw the fight and pull his punches on Biden.
  • Creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels made some ambiguous remarks about the casting and their takes on the caricature.
  • Given Carrey’s prolific animus toward Donald Trump, he might go easy on “Sleepy, Creepy, Slow Joe Hiden” (Trump’s words).

In a new interview with Vulture, SNL producer Lorne Michaels revealed that Jim Carrey will join Alec Baldwin to play Joe Biden. Michaels said:

But it came down to discussions about what the take was… He will give the part energy and strength, and… [Laughs.] Hopefully it’s funny. [Laughs] Hopefully!

That doesn’t sound hopeful at all. “Energy and strength?” Is Saturday Night Live going to play Joe Biden with energy and strength? Those are not the words conjured up by Joe Biden’s interviews, or his dormant campaign .

Jim Carrey Might Handle Joe Biden With Kid Gloves

While speaking to voters this February, the six-term Senator and two-term vice president seemed to forget what decade it was. Biden said he was running for Senate. Will Jim Carrey play a strong, energetic robot that spits out its lines?

Of course, Joe Biden was rattling off the same stump speech he has for decades. That’s how he kept his small-fry Senate seat for Delaware. But Biden doesn’t even have enough energy to remember he’s running for president of the United States:

If Jim Carrey brings energy and strength to the part, it better be to the take, not to Biden’s character. That would not go over well, because it’s not true.

But don’t expect Carry to care about the comedy, even though he’s supposed to be a comedian. Perhaps to avoid professional malpractice, he should recuse himself for the role.

Jim Carey urged Democrats to embrace socialism on Bill Maher in 2018 . That year he called Donald Trump a “melanoma” and said Republicans are “raping our system.”  He’s so triggered by Trump, he exhibited a gallery of scathing anti-Trump political cartoons .

But Here’s How He Could Clown Biden Good on SNL

Jim Carrey should just pretend he hates Joe Biden as much as Matt Damon hates Brett Kavanaugh. Watch how funny it was when Damon roasted him with all he’s got:

The Hollywood/network television world is rabidly partisan and deeply politically-inbred. We’re going to find out live from New York City on Saturday night who Jim Carrey’s true god is: comedy or politics. Don’t be surprised if it’s politics.

But if he did want to drop the politics and go for the best laughs, Jim Carrey and Saturday Night Live could clown on how similar Joe Biden and Donald Trump are. Democrats’ main arguments against Trump are he’s a kind of racist, kind of sexist, old, white, male, disrespectful jerk who talks a lot of trash.

Then they nominated Trump’s failed clone, with less strength and energy. That’s the funniest thing about this election. If SNL is for laughs, not applause, they could get a lot out of this angle, but at Joe Biden’s expense. Your move, Jim Carrey.
