Johnny Depp has fewer jobs — but Amber Heard still has all of hers.
After he lost the libel case involving his now-ex, Warner Brothers asked the former “21 Jump Street” actor to resign from his role in the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise, a request with which he complied without hesitation.
But Depp’s devoted fans are asking a very relevant question: if he has to face the music when it comes to his actions, why is Heard not being held to the same standard?
In theory, Johnny Depp’s fans shouldn’t be too worried about his departure from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise. After all, according to The Hollywood Reporter (via The Washington Post) , he’s getting paid regardless:
Depp’s exit came as a surprise to crew members, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which stated in a piece published Monday afternoon that his “pay-or-play” contract requires the studio to pay his eight-figure salary regardless of whether he appears in the film.
And good for him.
But his more devoted fans don’t think that’s enough. If Depp has to pay the price of being in a trash relationship with Amber Heard, she too should suffer a similar fate.
That’s why many of them are engaging in calls for her to be fired from her upcoming role in “Aquaman 2,” as you can see in the video below.
To be clear, no one is saying that either Johnny Depp or Amber Heard is innocent in this case. They were both awful to each other, and it’s not fair to paint either one as a victim.
And to be further clear, The Sun’s victory in court over Depp merely shows that they were within their rights to call him a “wife-beater,” as terrible as that assertion may be (and, in fact, is). That victory, however, does not mean that Amber Heard, herself, never picked her hands up to Depp, either in retaliation or self-defense.
But if we’re going to take Johnny Depp to task for his bad behavior, why are we not doing the same for Amber Heard? Why is she allowed to keep her job, and get booked for more, when she’s just as bad — if not worse — than Johnny Depp?
