Key Takeaways
  • Game Dollar is a new stablecoin designed specifically for Sui’s Web3 gaming ecosystem.
  • Playtron is developing GameOS, a device-agnostic gaming operating system that unifies multiple ecosystems.
  • The SuiPlay0X1 gaming console will ship to customers by September 2025.

The Sui (SUI) Network’s Web3 gaming bid just got a huge boost as Playtron announces an exclusive programmable stablecoin, Game Dollar.

The news arrives as the Playtron and Sui prepare to release their wildly anticipated and surprisingly powerful handheld gaming device.

Sui’s Game Dollars

Game Dollars are programmable stablecoins designed to “power purchases”, subscriptions, and earn rewards amongst other features across the Playtron’s and – in the future – other gaming ecosystems.

According to a press release shared with CCN, Game Dollar’s goal was to create a “neutral, programmable financial layer across games and gaming marketplaces.”

The Game Dollar stablecoin will be rolled out with support from stablecoin firm M0 and payments platform Bridge. Per the release, Playtron’s co-founder and CEO stated:

“Playtron’s GameOS reimagines how we play the games we love. Through this lens it became clear: stablecoins will become a financial backbone for the $500B global gaming economy.

Game Dollars will also have a home on Playtron’s upcoming gaming console, the SuiPlay0X1.

The SuiPlay0X1 Console

The news arrives as Playtron prepares to make a giant leap into gaming with the hotly anticipated launch of its handheld gaming device that can handle PC and new AAA games.

Playtron began as a gaming technology firm focused on developing a Linux-based OS so that it could unify gaming platforms such as Steam and Epic Games Store with a device-agnostic OS.

Then, in August 2024, they revealed that they’d been working with Sui’s creators, Mysten Labs, to produce a SuiPlay0X1, a Web3-native gaming device. It garnered backing from gaming behemoth Square Enix,

It’s positioned as a competitor to powerful handhelds such as the Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch, and is capable of playing major titles such as Elden Ring.

Now, it hopes to bridge the Web2 and Web3 gaming world through its tech OS.
