Key Takeaways
XRP declined nearly 20% during the second quarter of 2026 even as stablecoin activity on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) expanded at a record pace, highlighting a widening gap between the network’s adoption and the market performance of its native asset.
XRP closed the quarter at $1.04, down by 20% from the end of Q1, while its market capitalization fell 18.9% to $65.8 billion. By contrast, XRPL-native stablecoin supply surged by 195% quarter over quarter to $825.5 million, according to Blockworks’ State of XRP report.
The divergence raises a central question for investors: Can growing demand for stablecoins, tokenized assets and institutional settlement on XRPL eventually translate into stronger demand for XRP?

Ripple USD (RLUSD) was the primary driver of the quarter’s stablecoin growth. Its supply on XRPL climbed by 257% to $676.9 million, representing 82% of the ledger’s stablecoin market at quarter-end.
Stablecoin transfer volume also increased by 208% to approximately $10 billion. RLUSD generated about $9 billion, or 90%, of that volume, up from $2.6 billion in Q1.
— Blockworks (@Blockworks) August 18, 2026
Adoption expanded beyond the ledger. OKX listed RLUSD across more than 280 spot pairs and enabled its use as institutional margin collateral where available.
Japan also approved the stablecoin as an electronic payment instrument, with SBI VC Trade handling distribution.
XRPL’s broader tokenization market grew alongside stablecoins. The total represented value of tokenized real-world assets reached a record $4.46 billion, up 103% from Q1, although the value of freely transferable, distributed RWAs declined 5% to $386.1 million.
The contrasting figures underscore the difference between XRPL and XRP. XRPL is the blockchain infrastructure that supports stablecoins, payments, and tokenized assets, while XRP is its native crypto asset. Growth in one does not automatically produce equivalent appreciation in the other.
XRPL processed 222.4 million transactions during Q2, its second-highest quarterly total. However, average daily active addresses declined by 11%, payment volume fell by 27%, and decentralized exchange volume dropped by 36%.

Low fees may also limit the immediate effect of network activity on XRP. The average transaction cost fell to $0.00024, while only about 40,600 XRP were burned during the quarter.
Consequently, billions of dollars can move across XRPL without creating substantial fee demand or meaningfully reducing XRP’s supply.
Trading interest weakened as well. Centralized exchange spot volume fell by 54% to $57.6 billion, while perpetual futures volume declined by 44% to $154.9 billion.
There were still signs of investor demand. Global XRP exchange-traded products attracted $253.6 million in net inflows during Q2, up by 45% from Q1, despite assets under management falling by 17% to $1.99 billion because of the price decline.
Future XRPL upgrades could tighten the connection between ecosystem activity and XRP.

A proposed native lending protocol would support fixed-term loans and single-asset vaults, potentially expanding XRP’s use in credit, collateral and yield products.
For now, growth in stablecoins and tokenization strengthens the case for XRPL as institutional infrastructure, but not necessarily for XRP as an investment.
XRP may catch up if expanding activity creates sustained demand for the asset as liquidity, collateral, or a bridge currency. Until then, the second-quarter figures show that adoption of the ledger and appreciation of its native token remain two separate stories.
