From $2.4K ETH to $17.8M: Early Ethereum Buyer Moves Fortune as ‘Kanye’ Wallet Adds Debt

Key Takeaways

  • An early Ethereum investor reportedly transferred 7,594 ETH to Kraken after roughly a year of inactivity.
  • A separate wallet linked to unverified Kanye West claims added fresh borrowing, taking its reported debt to approximately $31 million.
  • The moves highlight different stakes for early buyers sitting on enormous gains and traders borrowing against ETH.

Ethereum, currently worth around $2,350 per coin, offers very different opportunities depending on whether an investor paid 31 cents or borrowed millions to build their position.

An early buyer reportedly moved $17.79 million in ETH to Kraken, while another large holder, rumored to be Kanye West, deposited thousands of tokens into Aave and took on an additional $6 million in debt.

For the early investor, that valuation is more than 7,500 times Ethereum’s reported ICO purchase price.

For the borrower, a falling ETH price would erode the collateral supporting a multimillion-dollar loan.

Ethereum’s 31-Cent Buyer Moves Millions

The early investor transferred 7,594 ETH, valued at around $17.79 million, to Kraken, according to the tracking firm Lookonchain, which said it followed “a year of inactivity.”

The firm said the investor originally acquired 200,000 ETH during Ethereum’s initial coin offering at around $0.31 per token.

At that rounded purchase price, 7,594 ETH would have cost $2,354 in total.

Its reported transfer valuation now implies a price of $2,343 per token.

Although Lookonchain described the activity as a sale, an exchange deposit alone does not fully confirm that the tokens were sold or reveal their execution price.

It does, however, show why an early holder may have little need to wait for another record high.

From $2,354 to $17.8 million in Ethereum

At the early investor’s reported entry price of $0.31 per ETH, buying 7,594 tokens would have cost roughly $2,354.

The same quantity was valued at $17.79 million when transferred to Kraken — around 7,560 times that initial outlay.

That represents around $17.79 million in appreciation, or a gain of roughly 755,600%, before fees and taxes.

The scale of that growth shows how much room Ethereum’s earliest buyers have to absorb its boom-and-bust cycles.

At $1,000 per ETH, those 7,594 tokens would still be worth $7.59 million.

At $2,000, their value would reach $15.19 million; at $4,000, it would exceed $30.37 million.

‘Kanye West’ Wallet Adds Another $6M in Borrowing

The separate borrower is keeping substantial Ethereum exposure while taking on more debt.

Lookonchain identified the address as a whale beginning with 0xdeA6, reporting that it acquired another 4,000 ETH worth approximately $9.4 million and deposited the tokens into Aave.

The wallet then “borrowed 6M $USDT from Aave,” the tracker said, before moving the stablecoins to Binance.

Lookonchain interpreted that transfer as funding further ETH purchases.

The reported position reached approximately 22,504 ETH in collateral against $31 million in stablecoin borrowing.

In September, CCN examined the claims connecting the wallet tracked as Wanyewest69 to Kanye West.

The available evidence pointed to a trader using the similar-sounding name Wanye Kest, but CCN found no independent evidence establishing the rapper’s ownership.
