“Multiple Chains, One Coin”: CZ Reacts as BNB Chain Plans a 200-Millisecond Layer 1

Key Takeaways

  • BNB Chain’s proposed New L1 targets 200-millisecond blocks and would run alongside BNB Smart Chain.
  • BNB will remain the native asset for fees and staking, with no separate token planned.
  • Planned features include native account abstraction, reserved transaction capacity, and optional privacy transfers.

BNB Chain is developing a new Layer 1 blockchain targeting 200-millisecond blocks, expanding its infrastructure while keeping BNB as the network’s native asset.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao responded to the plans with a message centered on a shared-token strategy: “Multiple chains, one coin.”

The network, provisionally called New L1, would operate alongside BNB Smart Chain rather than replace it. Its proposed architecture targets applications where transaction speed and predictable processing matter, including trading, payments, and AI-driven automated activity.

However, the project remains an internal development network. Its headline performance figures describe design targets, rather than demonstrated results on a publicly accessible mainnet.

A Faster Chain With Different Confirmation Stages

BNB Chain’s documentation describes New L1 as an Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible blockchain built for latency-sensitive applications.

The architecture separates transaction ordering from execution, allowing validators to agree on transaction sequence without waiting for every operation to finish processing.

Using an enhanced version of Parlia consensus, the network targets transaction-order finality in under one second, with blocks produced approximately every 200 milliseconds.

An additional pre-confirmation mechanism aims to provide users with an inclusion signal within roughly 20 milliseconds.

That distinction matters. A pre-confirmation is a validator-signed indication that a transaction has been assigned a position. It does not guarantee successful execution or irreversible settlement.

BNB Chain explicitly says these signals can be revoked. Applications handling irreversible actions must wait until execution results have been committed and finalized.

For trading platforms, earlier feedback could improve responsiveness. Whether that translates into reliable performance during congestion will require testing beyond the current development environment.

The practical benchmark will therefore be dependable execution under load, in line with the advertised block interval.

BNB Remains at the Center of the Expansion

The planned network will use BNB for transaction fees and staking, with no separate native cryptocurrency being issued.

A native bridge connecting BSC and New L1 remains under development. According to the documentation, staking BNB will generate an equivalent amount of non-transferable govBNB, which provides governance weight once delegated.

That makes CZ’s response a concise description of the economic model: additional blockchain infrastructure supported by an existing asset.

For users, a shared token could reduce the need to acquire another cryptocurrency simply to access a new network. For developers, it offers continuity with an ecosystem already familiar with BNB.

Still, shared token usage does not eliminate cross-chain complexity. Moving assets will depend on bridge functionality, while applications must account for differences between the networks.

Nor does broader utility automatically imply higher BNB prices. Any effect on demand will depend on adoption, transaction activity, staking participation, and the economics of the finished system.

Built-In Features Face a Public Testing Hurdle

Beyond speed, New L1 incorporates native account abstraction, allowing batched transactions, passkey authorization, delegated keys and sponsored fees.

These features could let applications cover users’ transaction costs or authorize restricted automated activity without requiring a separate smart-contract wallet.

The proposed Multi-Lane system reserves capacity for selected transaction classes, while an optional shielded pool introduces privacy capabilities.

Important work remains. BNB Chain’s FAQ states that the privacy circuits are unaudited and that trusted-setup requirements are unfinished before mainnet. It also notes that some Ethereum interfaces and transaction types are unsupported, despite being compatible at the execution layer.

Reported launch targets point to a public testnet by the end of 2026 and a mainnet in early 2027. The official network-information page currently lists no public endpoints or hosted explorer.

The next milestone is giving developers access to a public environment where the proposed speed, compatibility, and safeguards can be tested together before applications commit real users and capital.
