Key Takeaways
Bitcoin advocate Anthony Pompliano has claimed he sees the price heading “significantly higher,” arguing that continued government monetary expansion will remain a key driver of demand for scarce assets.
The comments, which also saw Pompliano reiterate his Bitcoin-to-$1-million theory, drew criticism from famous skeptic Peter Schiff — leading to an online clash between the two influencers.

Speaking on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Pompliano said he believes Bitcoin’s price is headed “significantly higher” despite a period of weaker performance relative to some high-flying artificial intelligence-related stocks.
“I think it is going significantly higher,” Pompliano said.
“I do agree with the hardcore Bitcoiners on one specific thing, which is Bitcoin has no top because the dollar’s got no bottom.”
Pompliano argued that investors should focus on long-term trends rather than recent price action.
The podcaster claimed that Bitcoin’s struggles over the last two years reflected investors chasing momentum in AI-related trades and a broader transition in Bitcoin ownership from early adopters to Wall Street investors.
“The AI trade is really sexy,” he said.
Adding: “People like the shiny thing, the thing that’s going up, they’re chasing the momentum.”
Pompliano also reiterated his long-held bullish view that Bitcoin will eventually reach $1 million per coin, but acknowledged uncertainty about the timing.
“Do I think Bitcoin hits a million dollars one day? Absolutely,” Pompliano said. “The question is, does it happen in five years or 40 years? I have no clue.”
During the interview, Pompliano also highlighted gold’s historical performance, arguing that precious metals and Bitcoin have both benefited from an environment of government spending and money creation.
“If you go back, even all the way back to 25 years, gold has outperformed the S&P 500,” Pompliano said.
He argued that government money printing has helped channel capital into scarce assets.
“What we are finding is that there is a lot of capital that flows into these assets, and they’re outperforming stocks,” Pompliano said.
Pompliano linked Bitcoin’s future performance to monetary policy, asking whether the US government would stop printing money.
“If they do not stop printing money, which I don’t think they’re going to stop, that means that Bitcoin, at some point in the future, is going to be back,” he said.
Gold advocate and longtime Bitcoin critic Schiff later criticized Pompliano’s remarks on X, arguing that Pompliano had relied on gold’s track record while attempting to make the case for Bitcoin.
“Funny how @APompliano just went on @CNBC to make the case for Bitcoin, but touted the track record of gold instead,” Schiff wrote.
“The fact that gold outperformed the S&P in the past has no relevance to Bitcoin, as Bitcoin is not gold,” he added. “But don’t expect @JoeSquawk to understand the difference.”

Pompliano responded sharply.
“Imagine how rich you would be if you had just bought Bitcoin a decade ago instead of screeching about it online!” Pompliano wrote on X.
Schiff’s criticism of Bitcoin has made him one of the cryptocurrency’s most prominent skeptics and a frequent target of pushback from industry supporters.
Data compiled by the Bitcoin Obituary Tracker (bitcoindeaths.com) shows that Schiff has declared Bitcoin “dead” at least 22 times since 2011, more than any other individual tracked by the website.
His earliest recorded dismissal came when bitcoin traded at roughly $17, while more recent warnings have been issued with the cryptocurrency trading above $60,000.

Bitcoin supporters frequently cite those predictions as evidence that Schiff has consistently underestimated the asset’s long-term performance.
The crypto has risen thousands of times in value since his first recorded “Bitcoin is dead” call.
Schiff, however, has maintained that Bitcoin’s historical gains do not guarantee future returns and has argued that investors often rely on selectively chosen time periods to defend its performance.
