1000 Finney

A Finney, named after the influential cypherpunk Hal Finney, is a convenient unit of Bitcoin representing one-thousandth of a BTC (0.001 BTC). Notably, Finney, a cryptographic pioneer and early Bitcoin adopter, was the recipient of the first-ever Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto.

The term “Finney” simplifies discussions and pricing when dealing with smaller amounts of Bitcoin. For example, instead of saying a cup of coffee costs 0.00005 BTC, one could say it costs 50 Finneys. Using Finneys helps make Bitcoin transactions feel more relatable and understandable, particularly for smaller purchases or micropayments. It pays homage to a significant figure in the cryptocurrency’s history.
