Key Takeaways

  • AK Informatica has tapped Cheqd for a new eSports digital ID solution.
  • The partnership integrates verifiable credentials for players competing in popular racing games like Gran Tourismo and iRacing.
  • The platform is intended to overcome cheating and impersonation in eSports.

For eSports tournament organizers, cheating, impersonation, and anonymous accounts represent ongoing challenges that threaten the integrity of competitions and events.

To overcome the problem,  AK Informatica has partnered with Cheqd to issue verified digital identities to participants in sim racing tournaments.

Cheating in eSports

In the context of eSports, where tournaments can play out over months and across continents, ensuring players are who they say they are is crucial.

One common problem is account boosting, whereby a player logs in to another, less skilled player’s account to increase their rank artificially.

Another challenge is the question of how to enforce bans when players are caught cheating.

In games characterized by pseudonymity and detached from real-world identities, bans can often be easily overcome by simply entering contests with a different account.

Digital Identities as a Solution

Digital identity solutions are gaining traction in the eSports industry to address issues like smurfing, fraud and impersonation. One such solution is creds.xyz, a credentials platform developed by Cheqd.

Cheqd’s “self-sovereign” identity solution is built on a custom Cosmos blockchain designed to give users ownership of their credentials gathered from diverse platforms.

The technology has applications in finance, AI and for diverse digital communities.

The latest partnership with AK Informatica integrates verifiable credentials for players competing in popular racing games like Gran Tourismo and iRacing.

“Driver ID will streamline onboarding and user identification processes for a range of tournaments and activations,” observed AK Group CEO Alessio Cicolari.

This will mitigate the risk of incorrectly identifying users, “allowing legitimate drivers to prove their reputation and standing,” he said in a statement shared with CCN.

Impact on Competitive Gaming

The AK Informatica–Cheqd partnership signals a shift toward greater accountability and transparency in eSports.

By linking real-world reputations to verifiable digital identities, tournament organizers can better enforce rules and maintain fair play standards.

This could also pave the way for cross-platform recognition of player achievements, helping skilled participants build lasting reputations that aren’t tied to a single account or game.
