Solana has shortened its target slot time by around 17%, bringing faster confirmations to the network, as one analyst predicts that SOL could eventually surge beyond $500.
The network simultaneously reduced the amount of compute available within each slot, keeping its overall per-second execution budget broadly unchanged.
SOL traded near $106 at the time of writing, meaning a move to $500 would require an approximately 372% rally.

Solana’s mainnet crossed into epoch 1037 on Friday, Sept. 18, activating a new target slot time of 250 milliseconds.
The transition represents the fourth stage of SIMD-0525, a staged proposal designed to reduce Solana’s original 400-millisecond target to 200 milliseconds.
Solana previously moved through 350-millisecond and 300-millisecond stages.
The latest reduction from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds cuts the target duration of each slot by 16.7%.
In practice, that means the network can begin slots more frequently and provide users with faster feedback at the slot level.
Put simply, a block is essentially a batch of transactions, such as token transfers and trades, that the network checks and records together.
Shorter slots mean those transactions can be acknowledged sooner, although Solana is not necessarily processing more of them overall.
The upgrade, therefore, divides approximately the same execution budget into smaller, more frequent windows rather than simply allowing the network to process 17% more work.
“Per-slot work limits are reduced in proportion to the target slot time so the corresponding wall-clock rate remains approximately unchanged,” the proposal states.
The clearest improvement is latency.
Confirmations and other thresholds measured in slots can now occur in less wall-clock time.
Applications that use slot counts to make time-sensitive trading decisions also achieve more precise timing.
Solana’s four-slot leader window has fallen from 1.2 seconds under the previous configuration to one second.
That gives each leader less time to delay or selectively include transactions before another validator takes control, potentially improving the network’s market structure.
The rollout is not finished; however, one final stage reduces the target slot time to 200 milliseconds.
Although no activation date has been announced.
Technical analyst Javon Marks recently revised a much more ambitious target for SOL, targeting the price to over $500.
In a Sept. 3 post on X, Marks argued that SOL had broken out of a cup-and-handle pattern, a formation traders sometimes interpret as a signal of continued upside.
“SOL breaks out in this cup-and-handle pattern,” he wrote.
Marks’ projection is based on chart structure rather than the slot-time upgrade, however.
$SOL BREAKS OUT in this Cup & Handle pattern and the future is looking bright green!
With this breakout, we are targeting $500+ which is currently over 350% away!
Solana can be set for a major extension to new All Time Highs… https://t.co/5MBZxczjZ5 pic.twitter.com/irqHSb2drO

From its current price of approximately $106, SOL would need to rise by about 372% to reach $500.
The target would also need a market capitalization approaching $300 billion.
Trader Gerla also recently mapped a possible descending-channel retest followed by an advance toward $150.
That level stood approximately 55% above SOL when the forecast was published. From its current price, it would require a gain of closer to 42%.
Failure to preserve the breakout structure would weaken both projections, particularly if SOL loses the support region surrounding $100.
Institutional demand could provide another source of support.
Nasdaq-listed DeFi Development Corp recently expanded its treasury to approximately 2.39 million SOL after acquiring an additional 55,491 SOL.
The holdings are worth roughly $253 million at SOL’s current price.
It also established a $300 million at-the-market facility for its CHAD perpetual preferred stock.
DeFi Development Corp said the proceeds would primarily support additional SOL purchases and general corporate purposes.
The preferred shares carry an initial annual dividend rate of 13% and are intended to be issued at or above their $10 par value.
If the entire facility were deployed to SOL at approximately $106, it could theoretically purchase more than 2.8 million tokens—though there is no guarantee the company will invest the full amount.
The approach echoes Strategy’s aggressive accumulation of Bitcoin.
In DeFi Development Corp.’s Q1 2026 shareholder letter, CEO Joseph Onorati credited Strategy with pioneering the playbook for digital-asset treasury companies.
However, Onorati said it never intended to become “the MSTR of SOL,” describing Strategy’s model as “a starting point, not a ceiling.”
Unlike Strategy, DFDV can use validators, staking, and DeFi protocols to generate yield from its holdings.
