Key Takeaways
Americans will be able to buy the new Donald Trump $1 coin on Sept. 2, as the US Mint releases rolls and bags celebrating the country’s 250th anniversary.
The 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin goes on sale at 12 p.m. EDT, according to an Aug. 27 announcement from the US Mint. The coins are being produced at the Philadelphia Mint and will be sold through the Mint’s official catalog.

— United States Mint (@usmint) September 2, 2026
The release also contains a lottery-like element for collectors: some buyers will discover a much rarer July 4th version inside their order.
The physical coin launch also comes as Trump’s crypto namesake moves in the opposite direction. Official Trump (TRUMP), the Solana-based memecoin associated with the president, traded near $2.21 on Sept. 2 and was down roughly 4%–6% over 24 hours.
Recent pressure has been linked to large team-wallet transfers and the token’s continuing unlock schedule. There is no indication that the US Mint’s $1 coin is connected to the TRUMP cryptocurrency; despite sharing Trump branding, they are entirely separate products.

The US Mint is offering two options.
A roll containing 25 circulating-quality $1 coins costs $61, while a bag containing 100 coins costs $154.50. The Mint lists product limits of 150,000 rolls and 50,000 bags.
For the initial launch, customers are limited to two of each product per household. The Mint’s current product page says that restriction remains in place until 2 p.m. ET on Sept. 3, although the Mint can later adjust its limits.
Buyers should use the official US Mint website rather than listings appearing on resale marketplaces around the launch. The Mint describes the rolls and bags as available exclusively from it.
It is also worth noting that paying $61 for a roll does not mean each $1 coin is officially valued at more than $2. The premium reflects the Mint’s numismatic packaging and sale of the collectible roll. Each individual coin remains legal tender with a $1 face value.
The most unusual part of the release is hidden randomly inside the standard products.
The Mint struck exactly 250,000 Trump $1 coins on July 4, 2026, at its Philadelphia facility. Those pieces carry a special “July 4th” privy mark commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Collectors cannot choose the July 4 version when ordering.
Instead, the special coins have been randomly mixed into the Trump coin rolls and bags, meaning a standard order could contain one or none. The Mint describes them as the first dollar coins of their kind.
The limited 250,000 quantity does not guarantee that the coins will command a particular resale price. Their eventual collector value will depend on demand, condition, availability and the secondary market.
The front features a portrait of President Trump alongside “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1776 ~ 2026.” US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna designed the portrait using an official White House photograph by Daniel Torok as inspiration.
The reverse uses the Presidential Seal, with an eagle holding an olive branch and arrows. A “250” appears on the shield to mark the Semiquincentennial, alongside “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
Despite its gold-colored appearance, the coin is not made of gold. Its composition is 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel, and it weighs 8.1 grams.
The Mint says the Trump coins have a circulating finish and are legal tender. The specially packaged coins offered on Sept. 2 have not previously been placed into circulation, while the broader Trump $1 coin program is also intended for release into circulation during 2026.
