Key Takeaways
Grand Theft Auto 6 appears set to launch without any playable crypto element, despite years of rumors that Rockstar Games could bring Bitcoin-style payments to Vice City.
YouTuber TGG, who was invited to Rockstar North for an extensive look at the game, said GTA 6’s economy revolves around banked money, physical cash, and stolen goods carried in a duffel bag.
His account comes as the person or group behind a series of unauthorized GTA 6 clips appears to have cashed out roughly $270,000 from a memecoin promoted alongside the leaks.

Rockstar released its first substantial look at GTA 6 on Aug. 27, initially giving Netflix subscribers six hours of exclusive access.
The 27-minute presentation is now available through Netflix, Rockstar’s website, and the company’s official YouTube channel.
Netflix said the entire presentation was captured from in-game footage running on a PlayStation 5.
It follows the protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, through shootouts, robberies, and police chases while also showcasing activities such as scuba diving, basketball, and parachuting.
Crypto enthusiasts quickly noticed that the detailed presentation contained no reference to Bitcoin or a tradable digital currency.
The footage alone could not rule out the possibility of a feature hidden elsewhere in the game.
However, comments from creators who were shown significantly more gameplay have further weakened the theory.
TGG said Rockstar flew him to Edinburgh in July, where he watched the extended trailer before observing Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson play approximately two-and-a-half hours of GTA 6 in free-roam mode.
In a video detailing the private preview, TGG identified “three different types of money or income” displayed in the game’s interface.
The first is money stored in a bank account, which remains protected.
Players can also carry physical cash, which may be lost after dying and potentially following an arrest.
A third figure tracks the value of stolen goods inside a duffel bag. Those items must be taken to a criminal fence before they can be converted into spendable money.
TGG did not identify a crypto wallet or crypto broker during the footage he watched.
Taken together, his findings point to zero playable crypto in the version shown by Rockstar.
The game’s economy instead appears to distinguish among secure bank deposits, vulnerable physical cash, and unlaundered criminal proceeds.
That does not necessarily mean crypto will be completely absent from GTA 6’s fictional world.
Rockstar could still parody memecoins, crypto influencers, or digital-asset scams through game content without turning crypto into a usable game mechanic.
It also does not definitively settle what could eventually appear in a future GTA Online product, which Rockstar has yet to detail fully.
While Rockstar prepared its official reveal, a leaker operating under the name Cyberleek spent 9 days publishing unauthorized gameplay clips.
The videos featured a watermark for the Solana-based CYBERLEEK memecoin and directed viewers to a website where token holders could vote on which footage to release next.
The material became increasingly sensitive, moving from short demonstrations of driving and gameplay systems to nudity and story.
Cyberleek claimed the campaign was partly a protest against the decline of physical video games, but the memecoin’s promotion led many to believe it was purely profit-driven.
That theory gained further support shortly before Rockstar’s official presentation.
According to on-chain data analyzed by Vice Cit, approximately $268,000 was withdrawn from trading fees associated with the CYBERLEEK token, then split across several transactions and wallets.
CoinDesk’s analysis found that the token’s owner claimed approximately $146,000 in wrapped Solana and 15.4 million tokens generated through creator fees.
The allocation was subsequently sold for around $125,000 in SOL, taking the estimated total extracted from the project to roughly $270,000.
Vice Cit estimated that setting up the token, website, and associated infrastructure originally cost around $29,000.
If the latest transactions represent the project’s final cash-out, the leaker’s potential profit would therefore sit near $241,000.
The token had reached a market capitalization of approximately $25 million.
Despite TGG’s findings, some traders have continued to cite two SEC-hosted public comment documents describing a proposed GTA 6 currency called “Sharkbux.”
The documents displayed Take-Two and Rockstar branding, while one suggested that the alleged currency could use a Solana SPL token architecture.
One document also named a Solana wallet holding 600,000 units of a TAKE2, memecoin created through Pump.fun.
Neither the wallet nor the token carried a verified condo nor referred to Rockstar or GTA 6.
Take-Two’s official August earnings release and Rockstar’s GTA 6 materials also do not refer to Sharkbux, Solana, or blockchain integration.
The ongoing theory traces back to a 2021 claim from gaming insider Tom Henderson that some GTA 6 missions could reward players with an in-game version of Bitcoin.
Henderson revisited the rumor in February, saying he believed the crypto feature had been “scrapped years ago.”
Rockstar’s existing policy toward third-party role-playing servers provides another reason for caution.
The company’s enforcement guidelines specifically identify the use of crypto, crypto assets, and NFTs as a priority area for potential action.
