Key Takeaways
  • Donald Trump has promised a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” for American adults if Republicans retain control of Congress in November.
  • Crypto investor Mark Chadwick claimed the payments could trigger the “most insane Alt Season imaginable.”
  • Prediction-market odds suggest the payments remain far from guaranteed.

Donald Trump’s promise to send $5,000 payments to American adults has sparked predictions of a historic altcoin rally — but traders currently see a difficult political path for the plan to become reality.

Crypto investor Mark Chadwick argued that if implemented, the enormous cash injection could recreate the speculative conditions seen during the 2021 crypto boom.

However, Trump has provided few details about eligibility and funding, raising questions about whether the $1.2 trillion proposal will ever become a reality.

Trump Promises $5,000 ‘Dividend’ if Republicans Win

Trump described the proposed payment as a reward for Americans benefiting from the country’s economic performance.

“So if the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000,” Trump said.

“It will be called the Trump Dividend.”

Trump said recipients would have to spend the money in the United States and suggested tariff revenue could help fund the program.

Vice President JD Vance added that wealthy Americans might not qualify, which could help reduce its overall cost.

However, the administration has yet to publish an eligibility threshold or a detailed funding mechanism.

Paying approximately 245 million American adults $5,000 each would cost around $1.23 trillion.

Estimates reported elsewhere place the potential bill as high as $1.35 trillion, depending on how an eligible adult is defined.

To move forward, Congress would need to approve the expenditure, according to legal experts cited by the Associated Press.

Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno said he would prepare legislation to pass the dividend immediately after the Nov. 3 election.

It’s important to note that Trump has floated similar payments before.

An earlier proposal to distribute $2,000 tariff-funded dividends did not materialize, although the administration did issue $1,776 “Warrior Dividend” payments to eligible military personnel.

Investor Predicts ‘Most Insane Altseason Imaginable’

Investor Chadwick compared the proposal with the COVID-era stimulus measures that preceded the 2021 crypto bull market.

“If this happens, and it’s a big IF—but if it does it would ignite the most insane Alt Season imaginable,” Chadwick wrote on X.

He added that the crypto bull market was “already lining up,” but noted this would be a “2021 COVID stim type catalyst on top of everything.

Bitcoin’s share of the total crypto market fell from 70.2% to 40.1% during 2021 as capital rotated into smaller tokens.

Ethereum returned approximately 426%, while the combined market capitalization of crypto outside Bitcoin and Ethereum increased by around 550%.

Altcoins saw a rise from $143 billion to $934 billion.

Solana’s market capitalization rose from approximately $85 million to $55 billion, while BNB climbed from $5 billion to $85 billion.

Stimulus money did reach crypto markets, although research suggests its direct effect was smaller than the mythology surrounding it.

A Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland working paper found a measurable increase in Bitcoin purchases that matched the $1,200 stimulus payment amount.

However, the researchers estimated that the program increased dollar-Bitcoin trading volume by about 3.8% and Bitcoin’s price by just seven basis points.

Only approximately 0.02% of the stimulus money studied could be connected to the trades.

That suggests the 2021 bull market was driven more by low interest rates, lockdown savings, and the NFT boom.

Could $5,000 Payments Send XRP, ETH and SOL Soaring?

If enacted, a program worth more than $1 trillion would provide a substantially larger individual payment than the COVID checks.

Even a small allocation to crypto could create billions of dollars in new demand.

Altcoins could benefit more than Bitcoin because their smaller market capitalizations mean that smaller inflows can move prices more sharply.

Several bullish forecasts are already circulating.

Fundstrat’s Tom Lee recently described Ethereum as “vastly undervalued” and said ETH could reach $6,000 if Bitcoin climbs to $150,000.

Analyst Ali Martinez has identified $150 as a bullish target for Solana if it clears resistance at $123 and $132.

He has also outlined a far more extreme $60 target for XRP.

While those predictions were not based on Trump’s dividend plan, direct payments could strengthen the liquidity underpinning bullish altcoin forecasts.

Will the Trump Dividend Actually Happen?

To become reality, Republicans must retain control of Congress, and lawmakers must then approve the payments.

As of Sept. 10, Kalshi’s midterm forecast gave Republicans a 53% chance of controlling the Senate but only a 16% chance of retaining the House.

Meanwhile, a related Polymarket contract gave the administration a 10% chance of formally creating any tariff-funded dividend by Dec. 31, 2026.

That contract was a markedly weak signal, as it was broader than Trump’s new $5,000 proposal and had attracted only around $2,250 in trading volume at the time of reporting.

While the potential for an injection is enormous, the probability that it reaches altcoin markets remains considerably lower.
