Key Takeaways

  • Jim Cramer said he plans to sell his Bitcoin after IBM CEO Arvind Krishna warned that quantum computing could threaten modern cryptography within three to four years.
  • Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley and Moonrock Capital’s Simon Dedic argue that crypto fundamentals have outpaced prices for the first time.
  • Standard Chartered still expects Bitcoin to reach $100,000 by the end of 2026, although Motley Fool analyst Lyle Daly considers that outcome unlikely.

Bitcoin is once again dividing some of finance’s most recognizable voices.

CNBC host Jim Cramer says he is preparing to sell his Bitcoin because of the potential threat posed by quantum computing.

Crypto executives Hunter Horsley and Simon Dedic, however, see the weakness in digital-asset prices as an opportunity rather than a warning.

Standing behind them is Standard Chartered’s Geoff Kendrick, who has maintained a $100,000 year-end target for Bitcoin and described the crypto near $64,000 as a “screaming buy.”

Cramer Plans Bitcoin Exit After IBM Warning

Cramer’s latest reversal followed a July 31 Mad Money interview with IBM Chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna.

When Cramer asked whether quantum computers could eventually defeat the cryptography protecting cryptocurrencies, Krishna said investors should become “paranoid” about the risk within three to four years.

Cramer later made his position clear after the interview.

“Arvind Krishna knows quantum incredibly … He knows Bitcoin and quantum. And I’m going to sell mine,” he said.

Hunter Horsley Says Substance Has Overtaken Price

While Cramer focused on a future security risk, Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley pointed to what he sees as crypto’s present-day progress.

“For the first time ever—substance has gotten ahead of price,” Horsley wrote on X, adding that crypto was beginning to update the financial system.

Historically, soaring token prices and speculative enthusiasm often preceded meaningful adoption. Horsley believes the order has now flipped.

Simon Dedic, managing partner at crypto venture-capital firm Moonrock Capital, endorsed that view.

“Price is the thing lagging, not the fundamentals,” Dedic wrote on X.

Dedic said earlier cycles were driven by hype that the substance failed to match.

This time, he argued, the underlying products and infrastructure already exist, but the market has not recognized their value.

He said he was “doubling down on the next decade.”

Standard Chartered Holds Its $100,000 Target

Standard Chartered has attached a number to that optimism.

Geoff Kendrick, the bank’s global head of digital assets research, reaffirmed a $100,000 Bitcoin target for the end of 2026.

He also dismissed concerns surrounding Strategy’s recent Bitcoin sales as “mostly noise rather than a signal.”

Kendrick later called Bitcoin a “screaming buy” near $64,000, arguing that Strategy’s shift toward occasional BTC selling reflected a communication problem rather than a deterioration in Bitcoin’s medium-term outlook.

From roughly $64,700, Bitcoin would need to gain about 55% to reach $100,000.

Will Bitcoin Reach $100,000 in 2026?

Motley Fool analyst Lyle Daly is unconvinced.

Daly argued that Strategy’s sales should not be dismissed, given that the company is Bitcoin’s largest corporate holder and has spent years promoting a “never sell” philosophy.

He also noted that BTC has historically taken two to three years to recover from drawdowns of this size.

“Interest is down, with many investors shifting their attention to artificial intelligence stocks due to their much higher returns over the last year,” he added.

In Daly’s view, BTC is more likely to trade sideways through the remainder of 2026—and potentially into 2027—than surge back to six figures.
