Nancy Pelosi made headlines and sparked hashtags with her speech-tearing tantrum at the end of Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address:
Nancy Pelosi reigned over social media in the hours after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech on Tuesday night.
Political and media analysts are saying she’s finally cracked the code. She’s playing the game the way Trump does.
But she’s really not.
These are not the kind of headlines you want to grab. And this is not the kind of living meme you want to be. Here’s some memeing advice for Nancy Pelosi:
If it takes you less than .00001 seconds to imagine what Trump’s new nickname for you will be after you pull off a PR stunt, that’s not the meme you want to be.
“Petty Pelosi” flies off the tongue almost reflexively when she tears up the speech.
And she walks right into this retort:
“U MAD?”, sometimes written as “you mad?” or “u mad bro?” …is often used in discussion threads to imply that someone is losing their temper…
Some more memeing advice for Pelosi:
Trolling is the art of making the other person mad, not advertising that you are mad yourself. If someone can legitimately respond to you with, “U mad bro?” then you are doing it wrong!
It is truly precious how backward Pelosi has this.
The meme Pelosi just made of herself is basically: “I’m so angry and powerless, there’s nothing left for me to do but throw a hissy fit. P.S., I want attention.”
Epic fail, Madame Speaker.
Pelosi’s supporters can’t meme either. Many called her #NancyTheRipper.
Your hero is channeling a crazy person from the 1800s who murdered people?
When her entire argument for months has been that she’s the ultimate guardian of the rule of law, while Donald Trump is a lawless criminal in need of policing?
Weird flex, but okay.
By stepping into the meme wars at all, Nancy Pelosi automatically yielded to Trump’s frame. (Which Democrats have done since 2016, and it’s why Trump is winning.)
Remember, the Democrats have acted for years as if Donald Trump is too sophomoric for the dignity and sacred duty of public office.
(Big joke that was, to begin with.)
Now their most visible leader, since they can’t even pick one to run for president, is ceding the “serious politician” lane for the schoolyard antics of Donald Trump.
But the left can’t meme. And neither can Nancy Pelosi.
