The talk of the royal family gossip mill the past week has been the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry “tell-all” biography. Of course, with Markle fanboy Omid Scobie holding the pen, we already know the type of book to expect.
But a new wildcard has just entered the mix. It’s the type of wildcard that should have a control freak like Meghan Markle sweating uncomfortably.
That’s right, famed author and aristocrat Lady Colin Campbell is putting the final touches to her own book. She’s unwilling to give too much away, but she has told us the title of the biography, along with a scrap of tantalizing information:
It’s called “Meghan And Harry: The Real Story.” There are plenty of revelations.
Plenty of revelations? Such as?
I’ve had members of the Markle family to stay, but I’m not saying anything until closer to the book launch.
Uh oh.
That one revelation right there should have Meghan Markle shifting uncomfortably on her Malibu throne.
Discussing the “tell-all” book officially-sanctioned propaganda being written by Meghan’s friends, co-author Omid Scobie claims:
Obviously, we have spoken with so many people in their lives, who have been in their lives, who have worked with them. No stone has been left unturned.
I’ll admit that gambling isn’t my forte, but I’d be willing to wager that the “many people in their lives” won’t include Meghan’s estranged family members.
We all know the story there. Meghan Markle has the kind of relationship with her family that she’s trying to instigate between Prince Harry and his own family.
Let’s face it, if she can’t have a happy family scenario, no one is allowed to.
So don’t be surprised when Scobie skirts the issue. There have been stones left unturned. Stones who just happen to be related to Meghan Markle.
While the Sussex Squad will no doubt hilariously try to tear apart the book written by Lady Campbell, the truth is she’s an accomplished author.
Her book on Princess Diana, titled “Diana in Private,” was a New York Times bestseller in the early 1990s. She’s also written a book on the Queen Mother.
While she’s been on the receiving end of criticism in the past, she’s more than qualified to write this book.
And more importantly, her viewpoint isn’t going to be skewed by a chummy relationship with her subject. Lady Campbell isn’t reliant on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for a job. So she can cover the issues that Meghan may have told Omid Scobie are off-limits for his biography.
Meghan’s fanbase will be screaming about racism when Lady Campbell’s book hits the shelves. The truth is, though, there’s a greater chance that this book is more unbiased and truthful.
Why shouldn’t we hear from the people who know Meghan best – including her family? Or are we only allowed to hear from the people who like her? Is that how it works?
Given what we know about Omid Scobie’s book, it’s hard to believe it will amount to anything more than ego-stroking propaganda.
And it’ll work for him. There’s an audience out there for that kind of thing. We already know that Meghan Markle has a cult-like following.
But for the rest of us, there’ll be Lady Campbell’s book. I’m looking forward to learning more about the real Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.
She’ll give us the good and the bad. Not just the curated version Scobie will be putting out there.
