Paolo Ardoino
Paolo Ardoino is the CEO of Tether, the company behind USDT, the biggest digital dollar in crypto. He also serves as CTO of the Bitfinex exchange. In 2025, Ardoino mattered because stablecoins became a bigger part of global finance, and Tether sat right in the middle of the trust debate, which revolved around demand, profits, and constant questions about reserves and audits.
Ardoino worked as a software developer at Bitfinex, then became its CTO. In 2017, he also became CTO of Tether. In late 2023, Tether said he would take over as CEO in December, replacing Jean-Louis van der Velde as the public face of the company.
In July 2017, he launched Binance after raising money through an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) for BNB. Binance grew fast and became the largest exchange by early 2018.
Ardoino helped turn Tether into more than a stablecoin issuer. 2025 saw Tether position USDT “as global dollars,” backed by Treasuries, alongside a wider push into infrastructure, energy, and hard-asset reserves such as gold.
Over the next few years, Ardoino will likely keep pushing for USDT to remain dominant worldwide while attempting to grow USA₮ under ever-evolving US rules. If he can do so, Ardoino may be able to prove that Tether’s reserves and controls are strong enough for stablecoins to act as real money.
