  • Sony is reportedly planning to host the next big PS5 event on Aug. 6.
  • The tip comes from analyst Roberto Serrano, who correctly forecast June’s event, but irked the wrath of fans with last week’s dud pre-order launch prediction.
  • If the information is genuine, Sony may finally unveil the next-gen console’s price.

As murmurs of imminent PS5 pre-orders and a price reveal swirl, more fodder has surfaced to fuel speculation about Sony’s next big move. According to a known insider, the gaming giant is reportedly gearing up for another PS5 event in early August.

Business analyst Roberto Serrano took to Twitter yesterday to suggest that fans should pencil Thursday, Aug. 6, into their diaries . Serrano also offered up a precise start time: 1 pm PT/4 pm ET/10 pm CEST. We’ve heard nothing from Sony to confirm or deny the information as of writing.

Sony’s Slow Reveal Strategy Brings Plenty of Rumors

Serrano track record is a mixed bag. The insider accurately pinpointed June 11 as the date for Sony’s PS5 ‘Future of Gaming’ blowout, setting a precedent for reputability.

The commentator’s standing took a hit last week after vehemently positing that Sony would open up pre-orders on Monday, July 13. The tip turned out to be a dud as the day passed with no activity from camp Sony.

The fan excitement spawned by the tip seemingly prompted Sony to announce that it would give fans ample warning before launching pre-orders .

The analyst’s patchy record warrants skepticism. Yet, after weathering considerable backlash from disappointed fans expecting to lay down cash for a PS5 last week, Serrano is back to feeding the rumor mill.

Whether Serrano pays little to heed to the scorn of fans or is on a path to redeem a tarnished reputation is unclear, but logic dictates the insider wouldn’t double down unless the tip had any merit. Judiciously, Serrano qualifies the news with a ‘to be confirmed’ disclaimer.

Toying with the notion that the information is genuine, the event could deliver the long-awaited price reveal, possibly a slew of new PS5 games to bolster June’s showing, and maybe a more in-depth look at the console in action to complement Geoff Keighley’s DualSense hands-on broadcast.
