Launched in 2020 by Dapper Labs, Flow set out to power a “new generation” of games, apps, and the digital assets behind them.
Four years later, the Layer-1 blockchain is still best known for its sports collectibles—especially NBA Top Shot—but its Web3 gaming scene is starting to gain traction.
Backed by major partnerships with Disney, Samsung, the NBA, NFL, and UFC, Flow is inching toward broader appeal.
According to Messari’s “State of Flow Q1 2025” report, while the platform remains dominated by sports NFTs, an emerging gaming ecosystem is beginning to show signs of life.
Flow’s biggest applications remain NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day, two officially licensed sports collectible platforms.
Together, they accounted for over 80% of all NFT trading volume on Flow in Q1, bringing in $8.1 million in sales.
NBA Top Shot continues to lead the pack with more than $1.1 billion in lifetime trading volume .
In Q1 alone, it generated $5.6 million in volume, a 10% dip from the previous quarter. However, it ended March strong, with $2.24 million in secondary trading, its best month since October 2024.
NFL All Day, Flow’s football-focused counterpart, saw $2.53 million in trading volume in Q1, down 30% from the previous quarter’s $3.64 million.
Flow’s gaming ecosystem may still be small, but it’s growing. The report identifies roughly 20 games currently live or in development on the network, with standout titles like Metaverse Football League (MFL), FanCraze Cricket, and UFC Strike.
MFL, a soccer management game in which players collect and trade digital athletes, recorded $1.06 million in secondary market volume in Q1, up 130% from the previous quarter.
FanCraze Cricket, an ICC-licensed NFT game, allows players to collect iconic moments from real matches. These collectibles can be used to compete in fantasy-style matchups based on actual game outcomes.
UFC Strike , which follows a similar format, brought in $360,000 in Q1 trading volume, a 63% quarter-over-quarter increase.
While sports still dominate Flow’s activity, these new numbers hint that Web3 games may soon play a bigger role in the network’s future.
