Key Takeaways
- Eigen Labs has laid off 25% of its team as part of a strategic shift.
- The company says the layoffs are not financially driven and insists it has a solid runway.
- The move is part of a larger effort to double down on EigenCloud’s new developer-centric platform.
On July 8, Eigen Labs confirmed it had let go of 29 employees, about a quarter of its workforce, as it restructures to focus more heavily on supporting developers.
The layoffs span multiple departments and come amid the company’s transition toward EigenCloud, a new platform aimed at enabling on-chain and off-chain verification for developers.

Not a Financial Crisis, It’s a Pivot
In a statement, CEO Sreeram Kannan called the decision “incredibly painful,” but emphasized it was necessary to realign with long-term goals.
“These changes enable us to sustainably pursue our long-term objectives with renewed focus and energy. While today’s reorganization is painful, I’m extremely optimistic about our future,” Kannan said.
Despite the cuts, Eigen Labs made it clear: this isn’t about money.
The company says it remains financially healthy, with $220 million in funding, including a $70 million investment from a16z specifically to build out EigenCloud.
Executives stressed that no further layoffs are planned, and the firm is offering three months’ severance and accelerated token vesting for long-term employees.
Additionally, Eigen is helping laid-off staff connect with new job opportunities.
Betting Big on EigenCloud
The pivot reflects Eigen Labs’ belief that EigenCloud can be a cornerstone in the next phase of Web3 infrastructure.
With a global base of thousands of operators and billions of dollars in staked assets, the platform is positioned to attract builders seeking scalable, secure infrastructure for verification on Ethereum (ETH).
Eigen Labs’ move signals a broader trend in crypto, streamlining for focus as projects prepare for a more utility-driven phase of growth.
