Key Takeaways

  • Charles Hoskinson continues to challenge the Cardano Foundation’s leadership.
  • Hoskinson argues that the fight against the Cardano Foundation is worth having.
  • The Cardano founder has accused the Cardano Foundation of centralization and mismanagement of $600 million in community funds.

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, has intensified his public criticism of the Cardano Foundation (CF), accusing its leadership of failing to align with the community’s vision.

Despite attempts by CF to address his concerns about development funding and a community-backed constitution, Hoskinson remains steadfast, describing the conflict as a necessary philosophical battle.

Hoskinson claims the foundation, which oversees $600 million in community funds, operates as a centralized institution run by the Swiss government rather than adhering to the decentralized principles that Cardano was built upon.

Hoskinson Questions CF’s $600 Million Fund Management

In a recent post, Hoskinson elaborated on his grievances, emphasizing the importance of community-driven governance.

He expressed frustration over years of unproductive private discussions with CF, which led him to take his objections public.

“The money given to them was not appropriately spent. It’s not a community organization. The board will never be community elected; the board will never have community members,” Hoskinson said.

“It’s $600 million of the community’s money, $600 million of your money, my money, everybody’s money that we’re talking about here. Some fights are worth having.”

Hoskinson’s remarks underscore his belief that the funds allocated for Cardano’s growth should be managed transparently and with community oversight.

A Call for a Community-Driven Approach

The central issue for Hoskinson is the lack of community involvement in CF’s decision-making processes.

He criticized the current leadership for rejecting proposals to restructure the foundation to include elected community members.

“We tried everything in our power to convince them of the wisdom that they need to restructure to be community-oriented. And then they publicly said the board will never be community elected,” Hoskinson said.

He further argued that if community oversight had been prioritized, the culture and governance of the foundation would be fundamentally different, fostering trust and alignment with Cardano’s core principles.

“If we had Community oversight and control, I know in my heart that that would never have been the conversation because the culture would be different,” Hoskinson added.
