The day has finally arrived. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are active royals no more.
As the clock ticked down on the last day in March, the Sussex Squad could barely hide their excitement! What a momentous day!
Then… nothing.
As the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are nothing more than a sideshow attraction.
Meghan Markle was slated to make her first post-royal appearance at the Met Gala 2020 in May. This was to be her big red carpet moment as she steps out for the first time as a Hollywood star.
As for Prince Harry? Well, he wouldn’t have been required for this event. Meghan was due to attend with Edward Enninful, the editor-in-chief of British Vogue magazine.
A source speaking to The Express commented:
The Met Gala is for the Who’s Who of show business. Naturally, Meghan was one of the first names on the guest list, and Edward’s team are excited that the two will go together. Meghan is keen to step out occasionally without Harry so that she can establish herself once more in Hollywood.
Poor Harry’s job post-royalty it to open the doors of opportunity for Meghan Markle. Once she’s through the door, he isn’t required.
After sharing their final post on their Sussex Royal Instagram account, the plan for Meghan Markle and Hollywood Harry was to relaunch as a “celebrity brand” moving forward.
According to royal expert Camilla Tominey, that move is now ‘on ice’:
Today marks the end of the transition period, where they were meant to officially step down, but of course due to the coronavirus outbreak, they haven’t been able to do that. They’ve effectively put these all on ice.
The reason for the delay? Perhaps you’d think it was because people all over the world are dying from the coronavirus?
Nope. It’s due to the lack of publicity they’d receive at this time, as Tominey highlights:
I think they regarded it as not only inappropriate to be rebranding at a time like this, but equally, they aren’t going to get the column inches they wanted.
Column inches are what it’s all about for the couple. From the very media that both Harry and Meghan blame for them leaving the royal family in the first place.
The same media that Prince Harry referenced when he talked of feelings of anxiety whenever a flashbulb went off because of how they treated his mother.
I wonder how he and his wife will react to the flashbulbs when they’re on the red carpet in Los Angeles?
I’m relatively sure that Hollywood Harry won’t be feeling anxiety then. And his wife will be adding up the dollars in her mind as she flashes that fake smile that royal fans have come to know very well over the past year or so.
