Twitter users were bashing a teenager today. They were in disbelief CNN announced climate activist Greta Thunberg would be part of their coronavirus panel.
But why would they be so angry about a bright young woman sharing her opinion?
People simply could not understand how CNN could choose 17-year-old for their coronavirus panel.
The most common criticism was that CNN chose Thunberg as a “coronavirus expert.” But they never said she was an expert. She was labeled a “special guest” who would address the “facts & fears” about the coronavirus.
Maybe she will simply discuss the effects of the pandemic on high school students. Twitter didn’t care.
Of course, some adults just straight-up insulted her.
The alt-right movement’s prodigal son, Ben Shapiro, got involved.
But the best had to be the George Soros conspiracy theorists.
While it’s not surprising that the people attacking CNN and Thunberg were mostly conservative, it is hypocritical.
Why would they be mad about Greta Thunberg being labeled a ‘coronavirus expert’ when Mike Pence is the head of Trump’s coronavirus task force? At least Thunberg has never royally botched any significant outbreaks.
The same cannot be said of Mike Pence.
In 2015, as Governor of Indiana, Pence opposed a needle exchange program that led to the largest HIV outbreak in state history.
Fifteen years before that, he claimed that “smoking doesn’t kill.”
Now he’s a “coronavirus expert” who wipes his nose and shakes hands during a coronavirus press conference.
At the very least, I’m willing to bet Greta Thunberg practices the most basic pandemic hygiene. By Trump’s standards, she might be overqualified for an appearance on this panel.
Even though the Greta Thunberg bullies are way off base, some have a point in bashing CNN. The news network is falling out of favor from not only conservatives but liberals too.
They caught massive backlash for their moderation of the 2020 Democratic debates. Many saw it as a blatant hit against Bernie Sanders.
Rolling Stone called CNN’s performance “villainous and shameful.”
CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has been accused of staging his coronavirus infection to get higher ratings. He was spotted outside when he claimed to be quarantined in his basement.

The list of CNN controversies goes on and on. There’s no defending this network.
But their choice to include a bright young woman discuss fears about the coronavirus is not one of their mishaps. Twitter users are the only ones here acting like children.
