Key Takeaways
  • The Sandbox will be wrapping Season 5 on May 12, 2025.
  • Off the Grid remains in early access mode despite Gunzilla rolling out mainnet, crypto, and nodes over the coming weeks.
  • Cambria has delayed the launch of Season 2, which was scheduled for April 7, 2025.

This year is the year that Web3 gaming truly takes off, as major titles, both old and new, gear up for full-scale launches and major updates for their players.

Over the coming weeks, Gunzilla’s Off the Grid, RuneScape-inspired Cambrium, and Gunzilla’s Off the Grid are set for some significant changes.

The Sandbox Season 5

The Sandbox is one of Web3 gaming’s biggest success stories. The decentralized play-to-earn metaverse launched in 2021 alongside its native token, SAND, and has become a culturally significant title in the space.

It kicked off “Season 5” on March 31, 2025, bringing players some interesting new updates, content, and $1 million in rewards. One of the major draws this season is its unique experiences, one of which is its Jurassic World partnership.

Additional games, such as SABOTAJ, which was released on April 10, will continue to be rolled out throughout Season 5.

Season 5 will end on May 12, upon which many of these experiences will be closed, though some popular experiences may be archived or recamped for future use.

The $1 million prize pool will be distributed to qualifying players, as will LAND owner bonuses and leaderboard prizes.

Cambria

Cambria is a RuneScape-inspired massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG). The game takes a cutthroat approach to Web3 gaming with a “risk-to-earn ” model.

In the game, players must stake crypto, NFTs, or other in-game assets, and they may lose everything. The game features both player-versus-enemy (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) modes, and failure can result in tangible losses.

Cambria launched its early alpha in 2024, with plans to kick off its second season, “The Paymasters,” on April 7, 2025. However, this launch has been delayed.

Season 2 is expected to run for two weeks, with the original end date set for April 21, 2025. The launch timeline may be adjusted depending on when the season officially starts.

Cambria will introduce new NFT-based weapon skins, cosmetics, and in-game experiences. One of the highlights will be “Gambling Dungeons,” where players pay to enter and face challenges that could either increase or decrease their holdings.

Built on the Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain, Blast, Cambria has since expanded to the Ronin and Abstract Chain networks.

Gunzilla

Gunzilla Games’ cyberpunk battle royale shooter was the first Web3 game to launch on the PlayStation 5 in October 2024, and the game has been in early access ever since.

A full launch is anticipated this year, especially now that Gunzilla has officially launched its Avalanche-based L1 blockchain, GUNZ Network.

Notably, Off the Grid will launch its mainnet nodes around April 17, 2025, sparking excitement about a full launch in the months to come.

Though speculation suggests that a full release will take place at some point in 2025, many are hopeful it could be as soon as April or May.

That said, early access periods for similar titles such as Fortnite and Apex Legends can last anywhere between 6 to 18 months, meaning a Q2 2025 launch is plausible but unlikely.
