A new ecosystem comprised of three interconnected Web3 games has gone slightly awry ahead of its main launch today, July 25.
With multiple login issues, funds not showing, and in-game bugs, the Illuvium-verse isn’t off to the best of starts.
Although several issues surrounding Illuvium’s new launch have been resolved at the time of writing, some still persist. Several users continue to face difficulties accessing the game, including troubles with logging in, incorrect zero balances displayed for user funds, and issues migrating assets, among other concerns.
The troubles were seemingly felt beyond the game itself, with users reporting that the Illuvium website and its decentralized exchange (DEX) were also experiencing downtime. Fortunately, these problems appear to have been resolved at the time of writing. However, concerns over potentially lost funds have emerged as a major point of contention, causing significant distress among affected users.”
It appears that many of these issues were caused by a combination of bugs with relatively straightforward workarounds and user errors stemming from a lack of understanding or unclear instructions regarding the game’s processes and mechanics.
A common thread throughout the Illuvium discord was the myriad of basic ways to fix the troubles.
An overview of the Illuvium Discord “community-help” channel revealed that many reported issues stemmed from users not consulting the available guides and resources.
For instance, one user expressed confusion about sending funds correctly, stating:
“What is not clear is how to send the funds correctly since what I want is for the funds to appear in balance on the Illuvium main page. I sent to my passport L2 address but it does not appear in the balance of the Illuvium page only in passport and on the zkvm network”
In most cases, these errors were resolved through simple troubleshooting steps, such as logging out and back in, restarting and resending transactions, or adjusting VPN settings.
Some users were also advised to disable their anti-virus software and run the game as administrator. Additionally, the development team is rolling out patch updates to address bugs that have resulted in lost levels and in-game progress for a small number of players.
Web3 gaming’s path to mass adoption is not without its challenges. The recent difficulties faced by Illuvium during its launch serve as a testament to the complexities of integrating real-world finances with digital in-game assets and cryptocurrencies.
While it’s not uncommon for mainstream video games to launch with technical issues – as seen in numerous Bethesda releases since Fallout 3 – Web3 games raise the stakes by involving users’ time and finances in unprecedented ways.
As a result, it’s crucial for game studios in this space to strive for a seamless experience from the outset. While some teething issues are inevitable with new technologies and services, high-profile setbacks like these may discourage gamers from entering the Web3 gaming space. To achieve widespread adoption, Web3 gaming companies must prioritize robustness, reliability, and user trust.
