Key Takeaways

  • Grindery CEO says Telegram embraces EVM integration, responding to the community’s crypto demands.
  • Delhaes thinks Telegram prioritizes innovation and security to lead the Super App race.
  • Privacy, crypto, and community drive Telegram’s unique Super App approach.

Recently, Telegram has captured significant attention. It has more than 900 million users and is the most downloaded app in China.

In this context, CCN recently discussed the integration of Super Apps with cryptocurrency with Tim Delhaes, the founder of Grindery .

Crypto Future Shaped by Community, Looks to EVM Integration

Delhaes said that Telegram was likely to continue expanding its efforts in cryptocurrency, especially focusing on its TON blockchain. The community wants to see this expansion not merely from a TON-centric view but from a broader, integrated perspective, particularly with respect to Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains.

This approach would stay true to Telegram’s core principles of openness and user empowerment, potentially revolutionizing the use of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies across its vast network.

When asked about how Telegram plans to stay ahead of technological advancements and evolving user demands, Delhaes’ response highlighted the importance of integrating existing ecosystems, like the EVM. Such integrations are crucial for fostering a diversity of thought and driving the innovation that will keep Telegram at the forefront of the Super App market.

Telegram Leverages Crypto Advantage in Super App Battle

The recent milestones include launching the TON blockchain and its advertising networks and preparing for an imminent IPO.

Now, Telegram is poised to enter the competitive arena of Super Apps, challenging established messaging platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and WeChat, as well as service-oriented giants such as Alipay, Grab, and Gojek. Elon Musk’s X Super App also joins the competition.

The objective for these apps is universal: to evolve into an all-encompassing platform integrating services ranging from messaging to payments and more, embodying the concept of Super Apps.

Delhaes explained Telegram sets itself apart in the Super App market through its staunch commitment to privacy and security. He explained that the following features help boost user privacy.

  • End-to-end encryption.
  • Self-destructing messages.
  • Concealed phone numbers.

But Telegram’s appeal doesn’t stop at security. It also features with a range of social networking tools and customization options. Being an open-source platform, it invites third-party developers to create applications. As a result, this helps build a dynamic ecosystem around Telegram itself.

He said:

“In its final and perhaps most distinctive point of differentiation, Telegram has masterfully integrated cryptocurrency with its TON chain. This stands in stark contrast to Meta, which struggled significantly in similar ventures, and Elon Musk’s X Super App, which remains largely speculative. By effectively leveraging crypto technologies, Telegram has not only built significant trust but also fostered deep engagement within the crypto community. This successful crypto integration distinctly sets Telegram apart in the competitive Super App market.”

Telegram Streamlines Super App with Design Focus, Enhanced UX

Delhaes said Telegram was addressing the challenge of integrating features such as messaging, payments, and third-party mini-apps. First, he said, it offers robust and well-documented platform features, complete with open-source code examples, which help developers create and integrate their applications.

He also added that Telegram was in the process of developing a well-defined design system aimed at guiding UX and UI professionals to craft better user interfaces. Additionally, these efforts were supported by a community that contributes to Telegram’s ecosystem.

He stated:

“As Telegram expands, it needs to strengthen its security measures to maintain user privacy and trust. This includes enhancing encryption protocols for financial transactions and implementing strict security controls on its APIs. Telegram is likely introducing two-factor authentication and advanced verification processes for added security.”
