Key Takeaways
After seven days of nonstop gains, Bitcoin has now surpassed all-time high (ATH) prices that have been in place since 2021 in all major currencies except the US dollar.
The price of BTC has toppled previous records in pounds, euros, yen and other major global trading currencies.
Among the world’s most important currencies, the Japanese yen (JPY) is the third most actively traded after dollars and euros.
As a result of the Bank of Japan’s monetary easing policy, since early 2022 JPY has declined by an average of about 20% against other major currencies. Therefore, it was the first big currency to get a new record Bitcoin price when the crypto surpassed 7,300 JPY on February 14.
For China’s renminbi, also known as Chinese yuan (RMB), the milestone came two weeks later on February 27. It was then that Bitcoin climbed above 449,000 RMB. On the same day, the cryptocurrency topped its previous ATH in South Korean Won.
As the crypto market rally ramped up on Monday after a weekend lull, ETH also surpassed its previous Yen ATH.
In Europe, the crucial moment occurred last Wednesday, when the price of Bitcoin surged around €7,000 in 24 hours. This move pushed BTC into previously unexplored territory.
At around the same time, the cryptocurrency also registered a new record price in Pounds Sterling.
Less than a week later, Bitcoin set a new ATH in Swiss Francs (CHF), marking the conclusion of its record-breaking European price action.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin is several thousand dollars short of its record price in USD, having fallen back somewhat from a recent peak late Monday.
In Canada, however, the previous record was surpassed last Wednesday, when the cryptocurrency climbed above 81,000 CAD.
Marking something of an anomaly among Latin American currencies, the price of BTC in Mexican Pesos remains below its November 2021 high of over 1.32 million MXN.
With so many new records set in recent days, all eyes are now on the biggest currency of all, as Bitcoin approaches the symbolically potent $68,790 mark.
