Quick Verdict – Is ChangeNOW Worth Using in 2026?

ChangeNOW presents one of the smoothest instant-swap experiences available. It's ideal for users who prioritize speed and security, enabling crypto-to-crypto swaps without compromising anonymity or having an exchange handle their private keys. With a triumph rate of 98%, the exchange is completed in under two minutes, delivering users with even better rate swaps.

Where ChangeNOW isn’t ideal is in facilitating fiat-intensive workflows, due to fee inefficiencies with the fiat on-ramps. It also struggles to facilitate complex trading strategies, with a relatively limited feature suite for professional traders.

The exchange is available globally, with 1500+ cryptocurrencies available across diverse trading pairs. Adding new tokens weekly, ChangeNOW is one of the best exchanges for swapping low-cap tokens or investing in promising projects before the general market catches on.

What Is ChangeNOW

ChangeNOW, founded in 2017 and available globally, is an account-free, non-custodial crypto exchange.

The exchange focuses on making crypto swaps as seamless as possible. Unlike traditional exchanges, it doesn’t rely on an order book; instead, it finds the best rate across its network of liquidity partners.

ChangeNOW Fees Explained

Instant-swap platforms are notoriously opaque about fees. We’re happy to see that the ChangeNOW instant exchange is bucking this trend by being fully transparent at every level of its fee structure.

How ChangeNOW makes money

When a swap is requested, ChangeNOW looks across its liquidity network to offer you the best rate it finds, with its service fee applied. This service fee is ChangeNOW’s primary revenue driver, alongside its B2B integrations. The exact fee varies, but it’s likely quite low, as ChangeNOW stays competitive with top exchanges on fees.

Fixed vs floating rate

When you want to do a ChangeNOW crypto swap, you’ll be prompted to choose between a fixed and a floating rate for your quote.

Choosing a floating rate means accepting that the rate you see when you request a swap may change slightly by the time your transaction executes. This is because floating rates account for live market pricing. Most swaps on ChangeNOW are completed at a lower rate than the estimated rate.

A fixed rate means the fees you pay are “locked in”, and market fluctuations won’t affect the fee you end up paying at the end of the transaction. Generally, fixed fees are larger on average than floating rates, pricing in the risk ChangeNOW takes during the lock period.

Overall, floating rates are superior for smaller or less time-sensitive transactions. Meanwhile, for trades where minor percentage changes account for substantial capital, you may be better off going with a fixed rate.

Network fees

Most blockchains charge a network (gas) fee for every on-chain transaction. ChangeNOW’s infrastructure automatically estimates the network fee and rolls it into your quote. This fee is paid out to the blockchain’s miners and validators, rather than ChangeNOW.

Large trade spread widening

When you’re executing a large ChangeNOW crypto swap, ChangeNOW will likely need to tap into multiple liquidity partners or delve deeper into the order book to complete it. This widens ChangeNOW’s spread and increases your fill price.

For large trades in the 6-7-figure range, make sure to compare your quoted rate to a liquid centralized exchange.

Fiat purchases

Buying crypto directly via credit/debit card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and similar on ChangeNOW is handled by its partners Guardarian, Simplex, and Transak. These partners charge their own fees in addition to ChangeNOW’s, making this a more costly option than crypto-to-crypto swaps.

Is ChangeNOW Safe?

Security was our primary consideration when creating this ChangeNOW review. An exchange’s features, ease of use, and fees start to matter a lot less if your funds are at risk. Overall, we found ChangeNOW’s security efforts to be top-notch, with its non-custodial infrastructure playing a central role in ensuring your funds stay safe.

Non-custodial model explained

Most of the largest crypto exchanges are custodial, meaning they take possession of your private keys or funds when executing a transaction. This means if the exchange gets hacked or goes offline, you may lose access to your funds entirely.

ChangeNOW, on the other hand, is a non-custodial exchange. It never holds your funds, so you retain full control. The way ChangeNow does this is by tracking on-chain data to find your deposit, and then executing a separate transaction with its partners to execute the swap.

This way, even if ChangeNOW is hacked or goes offline, your funds stay in your possession. With large-scale crypto exchange collapses costing users north of $100 million, opting for a non-custodial solution is one of the safest choices you can make.

Liquidity aggregation model

ChangeNOW doesn’t have its own liquidity pools for its trading pairs. Instead, ChangeNOW relies on a network of liquidity providers to route its swaps. These liquidity partners include some of the biggest players in the space.

When you set out to make a swap on ChangeNOW, it looks for the most optimal route to execute your swap within its network of partners. This way, ChangeNOW isn’t restricted to a single liquidity pool and can offer less popular trading pairs.

US availability

The ChangeNOW exchange is available in most US states. However, due to US legislation, ChangeNOW only permits accounts created under specific terms to operate within the country. In practice, this means your access to the exchange may be restricted depending on the state.

Supported Coins and Cross-Chain Capabilities

Asset variety is one of ChangeNOW’s biggest selling points, far outstripping many of its competitors. Let’s take a deeper look at what you can expect.

Supported Cryptocurrencies

ChangeNow offers a massive variety of tokens, currently more than 1,500. It’s one of the best exchanges for Monero specifically, being one of the few first-rate exchanges to fully support it.

Currently, ChangeNOW’s offering spans all major Layer 1 blockchains, stablecoins, meme coins, small-cap altcoins, and more.

The reason this matters when choosing an exchange is that you don’t want to jump around exchanges every time you want to invest in a new token. To further supplement this, ChangeNOW regularly lists new tokens, letting you stay on top of trends and invest in promising projects before the wider market.

Trading pairs

Since ChangeNOW can tap into multiple liquidity sources, almost all possible trading pairs between its supported assets are possible. ChangeNOW is a great choice for less popular cross-asset swaps, which are often hard to find on centralized platforms.

Cross-chain swaps

ChangeNOW offers native cross-chain crypto swaps. This means you can swap assets across different chains without needing to manually set up a bridge. ChangeNOW helps to simplify cross-chain transactions.

Stablecoins supported

ChangeNOW supports all the major stablecoins and RWA tokens. USDT, USDC, and RWA tokens such as PAX Gold and ONDO are supported across multiple chains, as well as less popular but useful options like DAI. If you’re looking to move funds without a fiat off-ramp, any of these would be an excellent choice.

Small minimums

Minimum swap amounts on ChangeNOW are extremely slim, going as low as $2. While the minimum varies by asset, it’s rarely more than a few dollars. This is great for smaller or retail users exploring the market. On the other side of the coin, there are no maximums, so ChangeNOW remains a valuable asset even if you transition to a professional trader.

ChangeNOW Pro Membership

As part of our ChangeNOW review, we tested its tiered premium membership program, ChangeNOW Pro. The program is designed to support high-frequency, high-volume users through a variety of incentives, including cashback and AML address checks.

The first tier of Pro is entirely free and only requires you to create an account on the platform.

Cashback on Transactions

Pro users receive cashback on every transaction with ChangeNOW. The cashback starts at 0.1% and scales up with your Pro tier. Notably, the cashback has no strings attached; you can trade it, stake it, or withdraw it immediately.

AML address checks

AML address checks allow you to see if ChangeNOW’s AML database flagged a wallet you’re looking to interact with. This lets you avoid interacting with wallet addresses associated with money laundering and other illegal activities, which could put your transaction on hold or violate local regulations.

NOW token staking

NOW token is the key to the Pro ecosystem. With Pro, you can stake your NOW tokens to earn a passive income. The only requirement is to have at least 10 NOW ERC-20 tokens on your account. The more entrenched you are in the ChangeNOW ecosystem and its tools, like NOW Payments, the more useful these tokens become.

Emerald & Brilliant tiers

Unlike many exchanges that offer their VIP bonuses based on trading volume, ChangeNOW Pro works as a monthly subscription.

The Emerald plan, at $15/month, raises the monthly cashback limit from 1,000 NOW on the free plan to 100,000 NOW. It also gives you access to 40 AML checks a month.

This is the first tier, where ChangeNOW offers a webpage for accepting DeFi crypto payments. Overall, the Emerald plan offers plenty for most traders, including smaller professional operations.

The Brilliant tier is a $100/month price jump, but takes ChangeNOW to the next level for high-volume and professional users.

First off, the cashback doubles to 0.2% on each transaction, with a massive 150,000 NOW monthly limit. AML checks become unlimited, ensuring every transaction is secure. You also become eligible for unlimited crypto loans with no upper limit to loan value.

Finally, you get access to custom webpages with your own domain. Overall, the Brilliant tier is likely sufficient for anyone outside of large institutional partners.

Is Pro worth it?

Since the VIP tier is entirely free, it’s worth it for anyone who plans to use the platform enough to justify creating an account. The two tiers offer substantial benefits; however, they may not be enough to cover the cost if you only make a few swaps a year.

For active traders, we’d recommend the Emerald tier to ensure you don’t hit the monthly cashback limit. If you’re trading large amounts, are a frequent trader, or accept frequent DeFi payments, the Brilliant tier is more than worth the price.

Before you select a tier, run the numbers on your expected volume. If the cashback comes close to covering the price, the rest of the benefits make a higher plan a no-brainer.

Permanent Exchange Address Feature

Setting up a permanent exchange address lets you use a single address for all your crypto swaps, without creating a new swap each time or requiring an account. ChangeNOW will always remember this address, even when executing cross-chain swaps.

This makes crypto swaps far more convenient. You can use it to automatically convert any crypto payments into your desired currency, or just to make more convenient swaps when trading.

Pros and Cons of ChangeNOW

Here’s a quick summary of our ChangeNOW review, highlighting what it does well and where there’s still room for improvement.

Pros

Cons

ChangeNOW vs Centralized Exchanges

Sitting in an area between Decentralized exchanges (DEX) and traditional, custodial centralized exchanges (CEX), ChangeNOW’s position in the market is fairly unique. Comparing it to some of the best CEXs on the market, while they fit different needs, ChangeNOW can easily compete, and even exceed some of its top competitors.

Let’s take a more direct look at how ChangeNOW compares to some of the world’s biggest CEXs.

ChangeNOW vs. Binance

Binance, the world’s biggest crypto exchange by trading volume, offers some of the deepest functionality out there. Between its NFT marketplace, derivatives trading, and a plethora of fiat on- and off-ramps, it edges out ChangeNOW in terms of features.

With that being said, its pool of tokens is relatively limited at 500+ to ChangeNOW’s 1,500 available assets. If you’re looking to get a jump on tokens before the market catches on, ChangeNOW is the better choice for you.

As a non-custodial platform with a clean track record, ChangeNOW also comes out ahead in terms of long-term security for your funds.

ChangeNOW vs. Coinbase

Coinbase is one of the most regulated crypto exchanges, with robust regulatory compliance, FDIC insurance for US balances, and global licensing. It’s also one of the few exchanges available in all 50 US states.

It does, however, fall short of ChangeNOW in terms of asset variety, with significantly higher fees on top. Many users report that ChangeNOW’s fees are, on average, 50-100% lower than Coinbase's for smaller and retail traders.

ChangeNOW also comes out ahead in terms of speed, ranking among the fastest crypto exchanges. If you’re using time-sensitive trading strategies like arbitrage, ChangeNOW is the better choice.

ChangeNOW vs. Kraken

Kraken offers one of, if not the most sophisticated, experiences for institutional investors and professional traders. From in-depth market insights by experts to one of the best trading & charting suites out there.

Kraken manages to do all of this while its fees remain competitive with ChangeNOW's.

However, ChangeNOW provides a simpler experience for new users and smaller traders. On top of this, its transactions are quicker than Kraken’s, and it offers a wider range of assets to its users.

When to Choose ChangeNOW

Traditional CEXs still have their place; however, our ChangeNOW exchange review reveals that it has done a great job carving out a niche for itself.

You should choose ChangeNOW instead of a CEX if:

Final Thoughts: Who Should Use ChangeNOW?

ChangeNOW lives up to its name, introducing substantial innovation in crypto exchange infrastructure. With its convenient UI, permanent addresses, and deep token support, ChangeNOW is a good choice for beginner users looking to start their crypto journey securely.

For more advanced users, its low fees, cashback opportunities, and lightning-fast speeds make it an attractive choice as execution speed becomes more important in crypto trading.

On the security side, ChangeNOW’s non-custodial infrastructure and pristine track record make it one of the most secure crypto exchanges on the market.

There is still space for traditional CEXs in crypto, especially for advanced, professional trading features. However, exchanges like ChangeNOW present a valid alternative, especially for security-conscious users.

Customer Support & User Reviews

ChangeNOW’s customer support team is available on its website, via email, and on social media like X (Twitter) and Reddit. In our testing, response times vary, but the average is quick, just north of 20 minutes.

The exchange maintains an extremely strong rating across platforms, with a 4.5-star rating on TrustPilot. While you should always do your due diligence before committing to an exchange, ChangeNOW seems to have an extremely satisfied user base.
