Bitcoin Booms on Pizza Day

An American and a Brit made history on May the 22nd 2010, when the former offered 10,000 bitcoins for a pizza. An offer taken by the Brit, who phoned Papa John’s and sent the American the pizza he craved.

That was the first real world transaction with decentralized free market money in history, making it an event to celebrate which bitcoiners do every year on this very day.

And the day couldn’t be more beautiful here in London. The sky is clear blue, a rarity. In New York City, one of the biggest blockchain conference is about to begin. In Slovenia, they are soon to dive into a massive pizza.

Everyone today is meant to buy a pizza with decentralized free market money. It might be a bit pricy with bitcoin, so, you’d be forgiven if you do it with eth if you are lucky to find a place that accepts ethereum, such as New York City’s Great Northern Pizza.

As bitcoin’s price has doubled this year, while eth’s price has doubled and doubled, most should be able to enjoy one of the nicer pizzas, but just be careful it doesn’t cost you $20 million.

On a slightly more serious note, the excitement over pizza day appears to be lower this year with bitcoin’s public spaces not really giving any celebratory vibes, and some even being quite depressing.

One reason might be because you’re not really meant to buy pizza with bitcoin anymore as some say it’s not for buying coffee – which translates to it’s not for commerce. Plus, transactions are taking forever now so it no longer makes much sense.

On top, all bitcoiners are talking about is UASF or segwit or BU or who cares! This isn’t 2015 anymore, but maybe there isn’t much else to talk about regarding bitcoin. The price, sure, but where are the projects, where’s the innovation?

Oh yes, just remembered, it’s all in a place where they are partying like it’s the 90s, pouring beer over each other in this glorious sunny spring, with all confident they are in the verge of changing the world.

So I’m off back to eth. Oh, be cool and post pizza pictures you bought with bitcoin or eth. And no cheating. You can tweet them too. Let’s celebrate guys. It’s boom times!
