Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is once again on the receiving end of Ton co-founder Justin Sun’s jibes.

Early Sunday, Sun took to Twitter promising to build a monument in honor of Ethereum when TRON cryptocurrency vanquishes the second-largest coin by market cap. TRON is currently in the 11th position.

In the same tweet Sun also ‘praised’ Buterin’s contribution to the blockchain sector. However, this sincerity is not the first word that comes to mind given the two men’s history of the rivalry.

What Prompted Justin Sun to Throw Shade on Vitalik Buterin?

Sun’s attack against Buterin comes days after China’s Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID) released the latest cryptocurrency rankings. In those rankings TRON took the second position while Ethereum came third.

The first position was occupied by EOS. For the first three positions, the rankings were unchanged from the previous edition which was released late February. The criteria used by China to rank cryptocurrencies includes basic technology, applicability and innovation.

Vitalik Buterin: Any other Blockchain but TRON

The rivalry between the two blockchain wonderkids is nothing new though. Earlier this month on the Unchained podcast, Buterin conceded that he wouldn’t mind Ethereum being overtaken by another blockchain.

However, Buterin noted that he ‘will have lost a certain amount of hope for humanity’ if that other blockchain happened to be TRON.

Unlike Sun who sees Ethereum as a competitor to Tron, Buterin seems to have a dim view of Tron. In the same podcast, Buterin stated that the most promising competitor to Ethereum is Dfinity, according to Breaker Mag .

Long History of Public Feuds

Last month, a video in which Buterin mentioned the decentralized file-sharing network BitTorrent appeared. Consequently, supporters of TRON took it to mean that Buterin was praising the decentralized file-sharing network. BitTorrent was acquired by Tron Foundation last year.

In actual fact, though Buterin was merely trying to explain the origins of cryptocurrency as being akin to the sharing of digital media files. But fundamentally cryptocurrencies had to have the added feature of being protected from double-spending. Nevertheless, Sun piled on pondering over Buterin’s ‘obsession’ with BitTorrent.

Buterin’s rebuttal was quick in which he pointed out that the video was recorded in 2017. This was one year before Tron Foundation acquired the BitTorrent network:

That interview was from Aug 2017. Tron acquired bittorrent in Jul 2018. My praise for bittorrent had nothing to do with Tron. This is like implying that because I like avocados, I approve of everyone who has ever bought an avocado.

It seems that as long as Tron and Ethereum remain rivals, the two blockchain wonderkids will always troll each other.
