saffronSaffron Bacchus made Bitcoiners very happy internet participants lately when she launched her new membership site, (NSFW) Bacchus Entertainment .

As she told Redditors:

I think 2015 is going to be huge for bitcoin so I think it’s time to stop getting screwed over by credit companies and just go 100% on bitcoin! :)

You can check her out on Twitter here .

Interview with Saffron Bacchus

What made you interested in making videos?

SB: We realized that there are lot of niche fetishes out there that don’t get a lot of new, high quality content, and we thought it would be fun to make videos for those communities! We love being creative and exploring the different fetishes and aspects of sexuality, and videos are a great way for us to express ourselves!

What’s the most ridiculous experience with a bank you’ve experienced?

SB: For the longest time we had been depositing the USD cheques we receive from our payment processors and affiliate programs through a local bank (our main bank branch is about an hour away so we have to use one of their partner banks), and the cheques would clear like any other cheque within a few days and we’d have access to the funds.

One of these times (on a particularly large deposit of course!), the funds never went through! We thought maybe it was just taking an unusually long time, but then in the mail we got photocopies of the cheques sent back to us from our bank! So we went into the branch to find out what happened, and apparently we’ve never been supposed to be able to deposit USD cheques through an ATM (even though we’d been doing it forever!), and the cheques had been sent back to each of the respective senders!

This was ridiculous, since if they had just sent us back the original cheques we could have re-deposited them elsewhere, but nope, we had to contact each and every company and have them recut the cheques again! On top of this, apparently the proper procedure is for them to hold the USD funds for 30 BUSINESS DAYS (fucking ridiculous!) and we have to physically deposit them at the branch. After lots of yelling, we just said screw it and cleared out our whole bank account into bitcoin. Oh, and to top it off when we were at the branch they realized that they’d been charging us “only” $4/month in fees instead of the normal $15/month, so that’s nice! Banks need to start dying off already! :)

Have you seen a clear advantage to using Bitcoin?

SB: Absolutely! Even under the best of circumstances, after paying $1000 for the privilege of accepting credit cards, we could only get a maximum of 80% of our sales as the rest would be taken in fees. 80% is even pretty good compared to the 60% we get from most places. With bitcoin we get 100%, instantly, and with no restrictions on where our customer is from. We get quite a few customers from places credit card companies don’t like like Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, the Philippines, etc. and bitcoin is the best way for them to send us money. Add to that the fact that we don’t need to censor our work, and bitcoin is just the best thing ever for us.

How has the response been?

SB: It’s been great! We’ve been slowly converting all our clients over to bitcoin for the last few months, which has been greatly helped by how easy it is to get bitcoin now through Circle or Coinbase. Now that we’re only offering custom videos and fetish items for bitcoin, and only bitcoin (before I would still offer to pay by credit card if the client really didn’t want to bother with bitcoin), we haven’t had any issues getting people to use it. I would say less than 5% of sales fall through because we only accept bitcoin now, which is great! :)

Are you keeping your Bitcoin?

SB: Absolutely! We live 100% on bitcoin now and only have petty cash in fiat for those rare emergencies where we can’t pay by credit card or bitcoin. We don’t want any dirty fiat dollars; that system is dead to us now that a better alternative exists.

Do you think Bitcoin and pornography (and art) are symbiotic? How so?

SB: I think art in general is a great use case for bitcoin. It’s always been hard for artists to make a living doing what they love, but now that we have bitcoin and the ecosystem that is developing around it, people have easy access to tips, crowdfund projects, and donations in general. Before, if you created an amazing work of art, it was hard to get any sort of compensation from the viewing of your creation. Now, it’s as easy as adding a discrete QR code and anyone who wants to can quickly make a donation directly to the artist! I think we’re only seeing the beginning of this type of revenue model, and I’m excited to see how much good work is accomplished because of it! :)

Do you use Bitcoin in your daily life? Any examples?

SB: Other than the basic business tasks like managing money and giving out quotes, we do try to leave tips for things we find interesting or funny online, as well as support bitcoin business by purchasing with bitcoin. The other day we paid for our Swearnet subscription with bitcoin and that was pretty awesome! Overall though we primarily “use” bitcoin for it’s other features, like as a store of value outside the fiat system, and as a way to transfer value, which are fairly passive but do technically happen daily! :)

Any affiliate options available on your website?

SB: We don’t have anything yet but hopefully soon we’ll have something set up to do affiliate sales. Hopefully we’ll see more bitcoin-only porn sites popping up that we can partner with!

What’s your plan for the future?

SB: For now we’re focusing on building up the membership site and filling it with content, but we’ve got big plans to work with other studios, product partnerships, new shows, and so much more! Bacchus Entertainment is the embodiment of our life’s work so we’ve got a whole lifetime of content planned! :)

Thank you for answering our questions, Saffron!

SB: Thank you for reaching out.
