Not just because we’re obligated to socialize with extended family and old friends of romantic partners during a time of year fraught with long-simmering tension, but because some relationships can be made or broken by the simple act of gift-giving.
For anyone harboring anxiety about how to sate their significant other’s material desires over the next month, two of basketball’s most notorious Casanovas engaged in a helpful, hilarious, NSFW Twitter exchange.
But whether non-professional athletes boast the brash self-assurance to take the advice Clippers guard Lou Williams gave to ex-NBA star Nick Young is another matter entirely.
Clippers Guard’s Christmas Gift Advice Will Make the Sleaziest Santa Blush
It all started when Young mused to the Twitterverse on Tuesday if bedroom-related gifts were appropriate to put on Christmas wish-lists.
Most of Young’s followers replied with jaw-dropped astonishment at such an unfiltered glimpse into his private habits. Some suggested he should go so far as to delete his account to avoid the inevitable firestorm sparked by his tweet.
Williams, though, responded to his friend and former teammate with the constructive candor of a man completely at ease with airing his personal whims in painfully-specific detail.
Anyone even scarcely familiar with Williams’ relationship history , by the way, surely wasn’t surprised – not by the now-spoiled gift his girlfriend will be receiving for Christmas, nor the confidence needed to announce it publicly.
Nick Young and Lou Williams Are Notorious Lotharios
Young’s dating escapades are well-documented. The shot-happy guard NBA fans lovingly know as “Swaggy P,” his self-given nickname, was engaged to Australian rapper Iggy Azalea in the mid-2010s.
Their impending nuptials were quickly and infamously called off in 2016, though, after a video in which Young copped to cheating on Azalea was made public. Adding fuel to the infidelity fire was the fact that the clip was secretly recorded by Young’s Los Angeles Lakers teammate, D’Angelo Russell.
Young, who’s still unsigned over a month into the regular season, is now with ex “Basketball Wives” star Keonna Green, his longtime on-again, off-again girlfriend and mother of their three children.
Williams, now starring for the LA Clippers, has settled down into similar monogamous bliss with Rece Mitchell, who recently gave birth to the couple’s third child. The pair weren’t always exclusively committed to one another, though.
A few years ago, Williams was the toast of polyamorous people everywhere when it was revealed he was dating Mitchell and Ashley Henderson. Not only were both women openly involved with Williams, but they seemed to embrace the “Sister Wives” dynamic, too.
Clearly, Williams knows what he’s doing with regard to relationships. Here’s hoping Young and Green come to an understanding of what to put under the tree by Christmas – whether the former heeds Williams’ NSFW recommendation or otherwise.
