Bitcointalk.org, the Bitcoin Forum, is currently offline with the official explanation being a DOS attack. In the past, Bitcointalk.org has faced hacks, man-in-the-middle attacks, and DDOS. According to isitdownrightnow, a service that tells you the status of websites worldwide, bitcointalk.org has been down since at least 17:00 PT. This is corroborated by the first reports on twitter of the bitcointalk.org outage:

Bitcointalk.org: The Bitcoin Forum
The Bitcoin community has thrived and grown on Bitcointalk for several years now, and it is still a large resource even for the niche portions of the cryptocurrency community that have sworn off Bitcoin entirely. Other Cryptocurrency and/or Bitcoin dedicated forum websites remain online; however, if the Bitcointalk.org outage is permanent, the Bitcoin community will feel the hole left.
It seems even bitcointalk.org forum moderator Theymos is caught unawares by this Bitcointalk outage, as he was just on Reddit linking to the forum three hours ago. Many in the community are still eager to see new forum software that is currently being developed at the hefty pricetag of $100,000 a month, paid to a company called Slickage. The rest of the BTC donated to the Bitcoin Forum is still in the care of several “Treasurers,” trusted individuals within the Bitcoin community. Theymos posted:
The forum’s bitcoins are currently held by the following people.
|Person||Amount||Fee (monthly)||Next fee payment||Address|
|Ian Knowles (CIYAM Open)||50||0||–||1BuANiueZAiNashSCfGV5Gmj9P8ReG1D8N|
|theymos||~4000||0||–||1M4yNbSCwSMFLF9BaLqzoo2to1WHtZrPke, et al.|
