Venga Earns MiCA License, Paving the Way for Regional Growth

Venga is a Barcelona-based crypto asset service provider that has been serving customers since 2023. The company aims to make the crypto experience more accessible by focusing on education, simplicity, and transparency. Venga is available in English, Catalan, and Spanish, balancing global appeal with local needs.

Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) is a framework governing the operation of crypto firms in the European Union. Venga attained MiCA approval from Spain’s Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV) just weeks before the July 1, 2026, deadline.

Approximately 244 of over 3,000 crypto firms earned a MiCA license by May 2026, making Venga part of a select group of service providers officially approved to operate within the EU.

Sharing excitement over the MiCA approval, Michael Stroev, co-founder and CEO of Venga, had this to say:

“Obtaining the MiCA license is a major milestone for Venga and the result of nearly two years of work across every area of the business. Preparing for MiCA required substantial investment in governance, compliance, security, reporting systems, and operational processes. The authorization confirms that we have built the company to operate within the regulatory framework that will define the future of crypto services in Europe.”

MiCA Signifiance

The MiCA regulation is the world’s most comprehensive framework governing crypto assets. It requires continual effort and involves ongoing supervisory obligations, enhanced reporting requirements, annual audits, and European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA)-coordinated regulatory oversight.

MiCA approval is strictly required for crypto firms operating within the European Union. It spans governance, capital adequacy, operational resilience, cybersecurity, risk management, customer protection, and internal tools, so compliance must be broad, not limited to one or two areas.

Crypto firms operating in the EU without MiCA must immediately cease operations and inform users to withdraw their assets or face penalties, including forced shutdowns, severe administrative fines, and asset freezes.

Discussing the importance of MiCA licensing for customers, Michael Stroev said:

“For users, MiCA introduces a level of regulatory accountability that has not previously existed across much of the European crypto sector. Authorization is not a one-time event. Licensed firms are subject to continuous supervision and must maintain compliance with operational, financial, and customer protection requirements on an ongoing basis.”

Looking Forward

Obtaining MiCA approval from Spain’s CNMV is a major advantage for Venga. Recent estimates show that up to 80% of European crypto firms have failed to secure a MiCA license.

With July 1, 2026, marking the end of the transitional period, many crypto service providers will be forced to cease regional operations, transfer clients, or risk harsh penalties.

As a result, millions of customers could be left without a crypto exchange. So, MiCA-licensed platforms like Venga could capture significant market share by serving displaced customers, potentially enabling it to expand its EU presence and offer additional products/services/assets down the line.

While it’s too early to say for sure how MiCA licensing may impact Venga, approved firms are in an excellent position. So, it’s worth keeping an eye on Venga over the coming months as users are forced to seek out regulated alternatives.
