Now, the two businesses will join forces. Amongst over 2,400 applications, Hub71 selected Startale as one of 27 companies to join its 18th Digital Assets Cohort.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development and Mubadala-backed program will see Startale build a base of operations within the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) financial hub, putting the company in a position to help steer Abu Dhabi’s rapidly evolving digital asset landscape.
Startale’s Expansion
Startale has grown significantly since its founding in 2019. The company formed a strategic partnership with Sony Group. Startale and Sony established a joint venture, Sony Block Solutions Labs, which is developing the Soniem, an Ethereum layer-2 that connects Web3 technology with present-day internet services.
More recently, Startale formed a joint venture with one of Japan’s largest financial services companies, SBI Holdings, which invested $50 million (part of a $63 million Series A funding round with the Sony Innovation Fund) to develop Stirum (a layer-1 blockchain for real-world assets) and expand the USDSC and JPYSC stablecoin ecosystems.
By expanding into Abu Dhabi, Startale can develop local operations within a jurisdiction increasingly favored by crypto firms for its innovative tech ecosystem, transparent regulatory frameworks, and easy access to institutional capital.

Future Developments
As Startale expands into Abu Dhabi, it plans to deploy employees in the region who will coordinate with regulators, investors, and partners through Hub71. As such, Startale could gain significant influence and help shape policy in ways that are positive for digital assets, cementing Abu Dhabi as a leading crypto innovation hub.
Moreover, Startale seems focused on building relationships with respected and innovative companies. Aligning with brands like the Sony Group and SBI Holdings could open the door to further partnerships with other well-known companies seeking to enter the digital asset space and build in a regulated environment, while simultaneously generating revenue for Startale and contributing to broader crypto adoption.
While it’s too early to tell whether Startale’s joint ventures with Sony Group and SBI Holdings will be successful, or how Abu Dhabi’s regulatory policy will evolve, the future looks bright. With the company focused on expansion, it’s worth keeping an eye on Startale.
